re: how Harvard’s composition would change if admission based solely on being top decile

Look at the difference between who is accepted to LSU med school in New Orleans vs Shreveport. The demographics are very different and so are the test scores and academic records. At least, it was 20 yrs ago.

I don’t know, when evaluating the accomplishments of 17 year olds there is something to be said for evaluating hardship vs having your parents craft your very existence.

Trailer trash kid who managed to stay off the same meth his single mom and deadbeat dad were using en route to a 3.95 GPA solely on his own motivation probably has a higher ceiling than a 3.98 kid who’s parents forced them to study until midnight and called the school that one time little Timmy got an A-

Of course this only works across hardship lines, and not ethnic lines. This data says if you’re a poor Asian kid you are truly fricked, and the world will continue to hold Bill Gates’ success against the trailer trash white kids of the world.
