Look at the difference between who is accepted to LSU med school in New Orleans vs Shreveport. The demographics are very different and so are the test scores and academic records. At least, it was 20 yrs ago.

True... in my medical school class, there were like 15 blacks starting, 8 dropped out after the first year, 4 could not past the USMLE steps. So only 3 finished and graduated with our class.

During our M1 year, we found out that the 15 african american students were offered to take a summer gross anantomy class before taking the actual gross anantomy with the rest of our M1 class. I think 2 of the 3 that actually finished refused the summer course.

I don't have a problem with the way they accept students. IQ is distributed normally. Not everyone has access to a mutual fund at an early age.

I don’t know, when evaluating the accomplishments of 17 year olds there is something to be said for evaluating hardship vs having your parents craft your very existence.

I don't disagree. I think we definitely go overboard on the so-called diversity exceptions (whether racial or socio-economic), but I think there is room for SOME flexibility in the strict test score / HS GPA criteria that is so easy to use. There actually is some utility in recognizing special ability, aptitude that might not be accurately measured in the traditional test score / GPA criteria. It's difficult to do and a slippery slope though. When you basically just start changing the standards to meet quotas, that is not helpful.

It's actually painful to try to make sense the above quote...

Yes... IQ is distributed normally... that's why some people are surgeons, and some people make McFries. The problems is the if the McFries makers are not represented in a school, they would be allowed in and trained to be surgeons.

Seems low.

Vanderbilt would be all Asian in a generation if we keep not educating kids in the US to compete.

Harvard has also recently come under fire because acceptance can be bought.

Make a large donation to the school, and mention the name of a prospective student, and that student will be admitted.

This is true per gender and race. However as a whole, there is much variance.

Men are both dumber and smarter than women. Most studies will show you this

Equally by race, every study is going to give you this

The above are in no way representative of what a race and gender could be in the future, but are a current snapshot of what breeding/culture norms have done.

Each curve can be moved within a few generations. Asians are not the smartest, because genetics. Asians are smarter because intelligence is important for breeding within their race.

I do and don't agree with you. Asia is a big fricking place with a ton of people. If you did a reverse study, they would also lead for the dumbest people for the same reasons. To stay on subject, Harvard is looking for the best minds regardless imo starting point. They want peopme who can start companies like facebook. With their 38 billion dollar endowment, they can take some chances.

I'm fine if 100% the entire student body becomes Asian. If that is who scores the highest to get in, so be it.

this is the case at Lowell High School in SF. Public schools are competitive admittance, and everyone wants in to Lowell.

Almost all asian.

White folks so mad.

Sports teams suck lol

No, the McFries makers will never survive the program, let alone ever become a surgeon.

You can admit low IQ people, but you can't make them finish.

The universities also have a legitimate interest in having a range of students there. If you went solely based upon top grades and index scores, the arts programs at these elite universities would disappear and they would be solely STEM programs. In order to maintain a healthy campus environment the schools must look at factors other then scores and ethnicity.

As strange as it sounds, my daughter, who got accepted to several elite universities last year, was told that it would help her admission profile if she could demonstrate good a cappella singing skills. What they also look at is the intangible of what a student can bring to the campus environment. Classical violin and concert piano are dime a dozen skills among elite students. This kind of thing is a legitimate consideration.

Rowbear, go to China. Holy mother of Budha will you see some short black haired people speaking a crazy language that are coinciedently, the dumbest people you ever seen.

The first thing you should do is hop in a cab and attempt to not be frightened for you life. Next, eat at a restaurant where the chef’s kid sharts on the floor and the chef goes right back to cooking your food...but, he did pick it up with a paper towel and not with his bare hands, so that’s good at least?

Asians are smart in the US because the ones we have are decended from the people smart enough to figure out how to cross an ocean.
