While I believe the premise is true, it’s extemely questionable to create an index using far more objective, quantifiable, and relevant standardized tests and combine it with “high school performance.”

Why wouldn’t he/she use the tests, since they very likely would provide a better analysis, they are easier to understand and interpret?

Maybe it’s data both sides of the case are using, but unless they are stuck with it, experts should use their expertise, and use the best data available.

These guys don’t seem to realize that there is far more involved getting into than grades.

Who is a better Harvard candidate:

4.0 GPA
1600 SAT
mathlete

3.8
1500
Varsity athlete
Editor school paper

Not on racial grounds.

Probably B, based in the extra extra-curricular.

But then again, he/she may have attended some small school where being a varsity athlete is a bit easier for someone. I’m really thinking too much about some made up people.

It’s obvious I don’t favor racial discrimination, and it’s equally obvious that you do, as long as it benefits non-whites. You’re a typical racist liberal.

Not necessarily. Think of it this way. There are plenty of 4.0 + perfect SAT scores people who have little social skills. It's a cliche and doesn't apply to everybody but its VERY TRUE.

Schools do have a right to want different types of students in their class.

Ok. But why is race a factor?

But honestly it doesn't matter because you and others wont be content until its 100% white or Asian. And most likely, that's never going to happen.

It’s racist liberals like yourself who support racial discrimination. You won’t admit it, of course.

Tell that to Michael Wang who had 4.67 GPA, 99th percentile SAT, percent ACT, speech club, debate club, math club(founder), plays piano, sang at obama’s inauguration.

He was rejected by not only Harvard but other ivy schools as well.

LOL, what’s worse, that or daddy buying you in to the shitty Ivy of all schools like our current President?

How many Presidents likely earned admission? LBJ at Texas State? Probably HW Bush. Anybody else?

The fact that the bottom decile of those admitted to Harvard as shown in in the OPs graphic is made up of people that have grades and test scores above the 99th percentile of all students is not understood by most of the posters here.

You're stupid. Penn is hardly a shitty school. Where did you go? Let me guess nowhere

Oh, and pretty sure Clinton earned his way into college.

Everyone of those admitted regardless of race had a SAT score at the 99th percentile or greater. A perfect score of 1600 on the SAT equates to only a 8% chance of being admitted to Harvard.

Did you even read the link you posted? It says a 1600 ACT yields a chance of admission GREATER THAN 8%.

Further, if you had clicked through to their data source, you would see that 25% of the admitted students scored BELOW 1460 on the SAT. That certainly is not 99th percentile.

Cheating is endemic.

You can’t trust the scores coming out of China.

At that time, the ivies were effectively finishing schools for the New England aristocracy. If you went to Andover, you were going on to Yale, and that was true even if you were getting gentleman’s Cs.

In 1948, 100% of my alma maters graduating class matriculated to Harvard.

Andover and Yale were also brutalty difficult in that era though, and so even if admission may have been easier for HW, he was undoubtedly well educated.

With the democratization of higher education, standards have dropped a lot.

That second infographic is basically saying black kids are stupid and incapable of learning the material the white kids learn.

The infographic isn't saying that, every single collection of data ever done on the topic is saying that.
