A few of yall talked too much shite about this Season and its throwing hands now
This season is still way under the initial projections. If this one gets to Major strength, believe that would only be number 2
This is what I posted on 9/3 and since then, there hasn't been anything aside from this
quote:
NOAA is forecasting a range of 17 to 25 total named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher). Of those, 8 to 13 are forecast to become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 4 to 7 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher). Forecasters have a 70% confidence in these ranges.
Currently:
5 Named Storms
3 Hurricanes
So to meet their "predictions" of doom and gloom, we need at least 12 named storms over the next 8 weeks. To hit their extreme doomcast, we need 20.

Also, the weather being immaculate afterwards made the lack of power more bearable.
Yep, that was a blessing. I remember the days after April 27, 2011 being amazing here. It made cooking outside on the grill better and we slept with the windows open at night.

Cone is pretty narrow. I don't think if will shift much.
Cone width is not based on track confidence. Although in this case, I think track confidence is pretty high.

This. We lost power for three days and the weather was amazing.

I’m in no way affected by this other than not taking what was a hopeful trip to the beach.
But it’s crazy how drawn in and invested that I am in this thread.
God speed to all the affected. Please stay safe.

Hurricane threads bring the best and worst of posters out.
Entertaining and informative with just the right amount of trolling and shite talk sprinkled in.

so we know the next storm won't hit where it's projected at this point
so are we talking more east or west?

Zeta was a bitch for Bay St Louis. Pretty much everyone on our street had to replace roof and all streets/slabs/storage rooms in our area on the Jourdan had about 3" of marsh mud from the storm surge. Like others said though at least the clean up was in cool weather.

A modern house built to S FL storm code can handle anything up to a direct hit from a major hurricane as long as you don’t have debris sitting around outside, storm surge or large trees.
Yea, I believe the new code for our home was that it "could" sustain 160mph winds. Concrete block construction with tile roof. One level. They are completely clearing the area when they build them so there are rarely any tall trees around them.
Like you said, if people keep things secured, they should handle some pretty good winds. I will tell you that Ian was our first "real" hurricane and you felt very safe from winds in those houses. It felt like a fortress as far as wind
Florida building code now states that each new home has to have storm windows or storm shutters. We have aluminum shutters in the garage but I dont think they will be necessary where we live for this storm. But they are pretty easy to put up

I heard this was because of the earth’s cooling system- it sucks all the heat from the tropics and pushes it over the cold Atlantic Ocean - and while the storm is doing its northern path, all the heat in the surrounding areas get sucked in too…and thus we have great weather for a few days

On the current path, Atlanta is going to test its infrastructure in a few days. Helene is going to go right on top of them.

Cone width factors in margin of error over the last 5 years. The further out you go, the higher the possible margin of error.
As forecasts get better, the cone may get smaller, but it will take time.
