The Nolichucky has me worried. I am from this area and all my dad's family lives there. No word yet on anyone over there.

Sorry I don’t have a clue. I’m just working here for a couple weeks. Longer now lol.
This thing set us back a few days but I’m really lucky compared to a lot of locals. This storm was big and wide.

$50 a gallon???? Karma gonna come back on her…. A damn shame.
That is ridiculous but if she was selling it for $5 nugs would still be stuck in Augusta.

Understood thank you.
I’m loading up my truck with supplies and will be heading over there first thing tomorrow.

My sister lives in downtown Hendersonville. The main issue currently is sinkholes popping up everywhere on the roads where the rushing water washed out everything underneath the roads.
A surprising amount of TN is on top of water and/or caves and caverns. This is especially true in the East. Sinkholes pop up a lot with a lot less rain. Let’s just hope the ones that come from this don’t swallow cars and houses. The ones that open over roads can usually be fixed.

My best friend spends a lot of time in a vacation home he brought in Zionville.
I tried Tuesday/Wednesday to get him to either fly out or at least get himself a generator and fuel for it.
He’s stuck now and I’ve only been able to text and talked to him once. Multiple trees down across the long road from the highway to his place and no chainsaw to try and clear it.
He’s not too far from Boone I think. Hadn’t talked to him since yesterday afternoon and am worried. He’s up there by himself.

It should. The Nolichucky isn’t forgiving even when the weather is good. It’s worrying me as well. Just hope that we don’t get round 2 and the next few days of 40 percent turn out to be 0.

As a local to the Carolinas the scale of the damage is mind boggling to me.
Especially when you consider the factor that for years we have been so far inland that anytime these storms blow in, no matter how severe by the time they hit upstate SC and western NC it’s generally a nothing burger. I literally ignored all the news because this has been the same case for 30 years.
The entire region basically thought as I did and we were completely caught off guard. Our rural home will probably be without power for weeks.
When I first drove down the road to see the damage my jaw literally was dropped for minutes.
We didn’t get it anywhere as bad as western NC but it’s a legitimate SHTF borderline situation.

I texted with a friend in Little Switzerland (behind the Inn) yesterday morning and she said trees and powerlines were down. Lots of roads in that area closed for many reasons. Cell service practically nonexistant.
Thanks for that info. I’m glad you were able to talk to your friend. Our family is further up the mountain near McKinney Mine Road so it’ll probably be longer before anything is restored for them.

My family that lives in south central and Lamar are stranded. All the bridges washed out. Many deaths in that 107 / 81 south area from my EMS buddy.
Small houses and trailers along the river just washing away with families still inside

Guess I’ll need to rethink Thanksgiving plans. Have a cabin on the outskirts of Asheville booked. Looks like that whole area is in for a rough time and will be rebuilding for a good while. I imagine the terrain makes it even more challenging than recovery in a coastal community.

Did you see cackle saying aid needs to be determined by race? She has no idea of the magnitude that we help each other, race not important.

Left Miami at 4am yesterday morning as I was coming in for Ironman 70.3 Augusta. Had no idea Augusta was supposed to get hit
It sure seemed like if you were reading this thread or watching the news that you would have had an idea that the area was having problems

We getting that forfeit. Lol.
Seriously tho. I'm sure they'll cancel it. Much of the school's leadership was there during Hugo in 1989.

Fired up a second generator. No word yet from power company on restoration time frame.
Haven't seen one power truck vehicle at all, but I do live out in the country.

Nolichucky Dam which had been in imminent danger of failure is safe for now. This is such good news.
