I'm so glad I bought my Honda mower before they stopped making gas mowers. I hope to keep it for decades.
About 15 years ago the kids got me one for fathers day. Moved and don't have grass anymore. My son has it now and it's never missed a beat. A couple simple things at the start of mowing season, tune up change oil & air filter. And always use ethanol free gas.
Last mow of the season run the carb dry. Starts first pull every time.

My neighbor has a battery one. When his grass gets too high he asks to borrow my gas rider.
This is pretty in line when what I see. Neighbor has one- takes him 2 or 3 charges to mow his entire 1/3 acre lot.

Which one did you get? I’m about to get one but not sure what kind.

Have you tried to buy a gas self-propelled lawn mower at Home Depot lately?
Bought one last year and it already basically crapped out. Everything in it is made of plastic and the carburetor stays gunked up to where it won’t crank often. Even the one I got was one of the only gas powered ones they sold and I wasn’t crazy about it. It was a self propelled one and even that setup was awkward and not great.
I finally got rid of it recently and got an older, more reliable one from a family member.

only if you buy the brand name batteries for replacement. I just got a replacement battery for my EGO mower during Prime Days for $60
Good luck. Every name brand batt I've replace with a knock off hasn't lasted for shite.
Also, I wouldn't charge that thing anywhere it could start my home on fire. Big names spend a tremendous amount on R&D for the safety tech in their batteries. China doesn't give a shite if your house burns down.

Battery powered mowers are so feminine.

I have a Husq lawn tractor but did buy a Ryobi electric push mower for the details around inside corners and in between beds and other places I can’t get with the tractor.

Congrats on your 1/8 acre. Some of us have to actually break a sweat and for that, we need some longevity.
And in that case you probably want a gas mower.
Congrats, genius, you’ve cracked the code.

Electric tools are the shite for a suburban home.

And my wife is happy to mow the lawn with it while I watch the game.

Who’s buying this shite?
It has never failed. Still using the same battery. It can mow both my front and back plus have enough juice left to do it, again, the next week.
Not sure why you believe it's 'shite'. It's a frick ton better than a stuck float valve, fouled plug, clogged gas line, dirty filter, changing oil, buying and storing gas, yanking and pulling, priming and choking. frick all that!

People still have a 1990s view on what an electric mower is.
It's like that whole Tesla thing is just a fluke and it's impossible to think an electric mower might actually work in 2026.

gas self-propelled lawn mower
Have 2
One is a Lawn Boy with a side catcher.
One is a Cub Cadet with a back bagger.
Both are from the last century and better made than any today. I think the Cub Cadet is newer (but at least 30 years old) and built like a tank. The Lawn Boy is lighter with an aluminum deck (no rust).
Pick a decent one up at a yard sale for 50 to 100 bucks then spend 50 to 100 bucks at the start of sirup for annual tune up and maintenance.
