Have you tried to buy a gas self-propelled lawn mower at Home Depot lately?

I’m in the market and Home Depot is the closest to my house. They had 3 in the store and none under $550. They had a shite ton of battery operated lawnmowers for the same price or higher. Are that many people using batteries these days? I never see anyone in my neighborhood using electric. Who’s buying this shite?

When this gas mower dies I’m buying an electric one. My yard takes maybe 20-30 minutes to mow and they’re much quieter.

My neighbor has a battery one. When his grass gets too high he asks to borrow my gas rider.

Yeah, they are actually. Of the 7 houses in my cul de sac, 4 of them have EGO mowers now, one of them the zero-turn model. I've got a 12 year old husqvarna self propelled and I'm not going to lie I'm a little jealous. They are quiet, easier to use, and cut better.
The tech has definitely arrived

I’m an old curmudgeon and don’t make changes lightly.
While I don’t have a problem with gas mowers and know that’s the best option in many applications, I made the switch fo electric for my mid-sized suburban yard.
Now, it’s my first one so I’m still waiting to see how it holds up over time, but it’s been good so far.
I had a small adjustment period for the first cut. But the power is not at all a problem and the battery holds up fine for the entire job, with 1/3 to 1/2 capacity to spare.
I like that its quieter and makes me feel less guilty about cutting early for the neighbors. Also I can better hear my music in my ear buds while cutting.
So far, there’s less maintenance that the gas mowers, especially if you include filling the gas can.
I made the decision based on pros and cons, and so far I’m more than satisfied.

I probably will too. I have 2 old riding mowers and a tiny yard and I spend more time working on them than cutting the grass. I just spent an hour replacing the 110v plug on my air compressor to pump the tires up on my mowers EVERYTIME I have to mow

Check out the battery prices.
They are like printers. The machines are cheap, the ink costs are where they get ya.

That’s only if you buy the brand name batteries for replacement. I just got a replacement battery for my EGO mower during Prime Days for $60. The same from them would be about $200.

That seems to be the norm these days. I still have a gas self propelled mower from 2010 ish. I switched my weedeater from gas to an electric E-go. I love it. No more mixing gas and oil and struggling to get it started. I’ll probably switch to an electric mower when my Troy Built gas mower dies, because my yard isn’t too big.

Congrats on your 1/8 acre.
Some of us have to actually break a sweat and for that, we need some longevity.

fwiw - I have a gas riding lawn mower and a push mower. I bought a EGO and I'm selling the other two. This new electric mower is great for an average yard and because it weighs like only 20 pounds it's just easy to use and doesn't create ruts in my yard.
Bonus - Exercise: I turned on my watch and I walk a tad over 1 mile cutting my backyard in about 25 minutes!

quote:my Cub cadet is a 1993 model and it's been great but I hafta blow into the fricking gas cap everytime to get fuel flowing now. No idea wtf is wrong with it. Fuel flows fine up to the carb but it just won't go and im too lazy to pull the carb apart. I just fight with it until its starts running then tell myself ill fix it over the winter. Which i definitely won't do
struggling to get it started.

I believe it.
Go ahead and get a battery powered push mower. Then wait till it's 100 degrees outside after raining for 5 days straight and the grass is super high. You'll be begging for a gas powered mower.

Sam’s Club has one for $400. It was on sale for $300 not long ago.

And some of us can afford to pay other people to break a sweat. I can ask them where they bought their equipment, if you’ve a need

eBay has no name batteries of higher capacity for cheap.

I'm so glad I bought my Honda mower before they stopped making gas mowers. I hope to keep it for decades.

I live in a neighborhood full of old people. It’s basically a retirement community. Almost everyone in my neighborhood who mows their grass has an electric push mower. Or they hire someone to mow their grass.
That being said, I have two gas powered mowers, one self propelled and a 20+ year old Craftsman push mower that refuses to die.
