Electric is better at this point bc combustible engine are shite made and will frustrate the hell out of the average consumer.
They are easy to operate. The power and torque are fine for home usage and they have fewer moving parts.

I have an electric push mower that can handle the tall grass but that’s because it’s got a power cord. It’s actually a good little mower but the limitation of that 100 foot power cord is a problem. Thankfully somebody gave me a gas mower last summer, and all I had to do was put a new blade on it. So now I use both of them.

But will that no name battery burn your house down?

Check out the battery prices. They are like printers. The machines are cheap, the ink costs are where they get ya
The batteries start to lose capacity over time. You’ll start to notice that you used to cut your yard and still have half power and a year or two you cut your yard and it’s empty. Then you don’t make a full cut. Then you buy new batteries. But they are damn expensive so you buy off brand. It won’t work out.
Go ahead and Miss a cut because it’s too wet and you don’t have the power to get through the grass.
This is 100% me admitting I fricked up and tried to go battery. Wasn’t even for my full yard. It was for a portion that I don’t want to use my reel.
I still have an electric trimmer. Even that I used to get all the way through my yard. Now I have to charge then cut grass and come back and finish trimming.

I've had an electric push mower for 6 years plus, still using the same batteries. The original battery is finally starting to give in. But I have a bunch of 40v batteries because od the ecosystem. Mower works fine and the only.reason im considering getting a new one is just for double bladed features and the like.

Modern high-voltage battery tools can have more power output than a 15-amp wall socket, which is 1800 watts at 120V. Add in the voltage drop on the cord and it is even less.
ETA most corded tools don't have brushless motors either so another downgrade in torque and motor control.

And some of us can afford to pay other people to break a sweat. I can ask them where they bought their equipment, if you’ve a need
With the price of lawn equipment and gas right now, that brag doesn't hit the way you'd like it to, poor guy.

If you’re paying more money for gas/equipment and still doing the work yourself, while you might not be poor, it might make you an idiot

I was choosing between the last great Honda self propelled and Ego and opted for the battery mower.
Unfortunately I moved a year later and I have a much larger yard now so I've had to pick up a few extra batteries to handle it.
No big deal because I have like 7 other ego tools so it's nice to have backup battery power.

There's no reason to buy a gas powered mower unless the yard that you're going to be mowing is over .25 acres.
Just buy a battery powered mower and a battery powered weedeater.
You'll save on gas, maintenance, and time.

I had an ego. Gas is superior. Batteries die or go to shite after 4-5 years

When this gas mower dies I’m buying an electric one. My yard takes maybe 20-30 minutes to mow and they’re much quieter.
You can mow at 6 am without getting the OT's panties in a bunch

All gas push mowers are junk these days

I get a few more years on me, I'm gonna investigate those robot mowers.

I have an Ego electric mower and love it. All of my basic lawn equipment is Ego now.
Mower is really quiet so I can get out and mow early on a Saturday before it is blazing hot and I won't piss off any neighbors.

Who’s buying this shite?
i have three gas mowers and one battery powered. The battery is far superior to the two gas push mowers. Costco special. I got a chainsaw too that is better than my big expensive gas one in a lot of way (lighter, quieter, and just as powerful--batteries don't last very long when sawing up a large tree for fire wood. But the same batteries as for the mower, so easy.)

i mean... is that short? just buy more equipment with compatible batters/chargers. Still cheaper than ethanol-free gas over 5 years.

Here's the deal. They force you to change your habit by doing exactly what you stated. They make the item you want unattractive, more expensive, or unavailable. Eventually you drink the Kool-Aid and join their club.
Have you grocery shopped lately? Do you drink 'normal' milk? There are loads of 2% fat, 0% fat, soy milk, oat milk, on and on and on. And guess what? The only milk item which is empty is the traditional milk. I am about to buy my own damn cow.

I bought that shite. Ran an old Toro into the ground after 20 years and said no more. Got a Ryobi and mows my small yard just fine.
