My GF's friend is an adolescent/child psychiatrist. Her first job out of med school was on the Navajo reservation. Said it was very challenging, but very rewarding.

Every time I'm driving through east Montana and I have to stop on the Crow to get gas I feel like I'm being watched the entire time. It's a little unsettling. Every Indian I've ever met was a great, strong person, but their reservations are just brutal.

Alcohol is a very very very big issue on reservations. I saw an interview from a reservation and the leader in the areaway talking about how every one in the area was a serious serious alcoholic and how every paycheck they get goes to alcohol. They banned alcohol on the reservation and beer companies opened up stores right off reservation land. There was a huge law suit about it.
I knew a guy who taught on reservation land in New Mexico. He said that the Indians were far and away the most athletic people he's ever seen (he was a coach) but they didn't have any discipline to play sports whatsoever.
That's all I got.

I used to work with this big Indian guy. He looked like he played football or something, and could hoss around a ditch witch like it was nothing. I had to drive the work truck around everywhere because he just drank beer all day long. He even brought beer into fast food places to eat lunch

Yes, the Puyallup Indian Reservation in Washington State. Pretty bad site. Lots of junk cars parked outside trailers. Poor people have simply been decimated by alcohol and drugs.

They actually tried this in 1978. It went like this:

At one time the Choctaws in MS were considering opening a new car dealership near the casino in Philadelphia. No sales tax would have giving them a huge advantage over other dealers. The other dealers went bat shite crazy and the state gov't got involved, but I don't know how they prevented it.

FWIW: The other stuff sounds pretty bad but the last bit probably comes from her not understanding the circumstances. If your in hand cuffed, your either being detained or arrested. If your being arrested, they are absolutely supposed to check (in a respectful manner of course) inside the bra area. If you don't know any better, it can easily be misinterpreted as fondling.

I don't know how new vehicle taxation and registration is handled in MS, but I'm fairly sure that in LA you pay based on the Parish the vehicle is registered in.

I've been living on the Navajo rez for 26 years. I'm a white boy (Biligaana)Navajo name for white people. They are just like all other people. Most are great people and the few are not. My wife is Navajo and our kids are doing great. There are a lot of social issues here and the government does not do enough to justify it deciding to create reservations, in my opinion. The government has created a failed system. It is not the fault of the Indians for the system created by the federal government making reservations. Gravitate towards the good people and avoid the rest just like you should do anywhere else you go.
