Be careful. Going to a reservation is like traveling to a different country. They have their own laws and most do not allow firearms regardless of the state's laws or what type of weapons permit you have

I've been to a few in New Mexico. Every one we went to, the residents were accustomed to tourists. We bought several beautiful pieces of pottery from their local stores. The pottery was half the price that you'd find it in the major towns. The Indians could also sell it to us at price higher than they wholesaled it to the townies.

I spoke with one of the pottery guys for a few hours. He showed me his process of making his black clay pottery by curing it with heated up cow shite. You wouldn't believe how hot cow shite burns

quote:

blackware - the materials and steps of preparing the clay, modeling, finishing and decorating are the same as for red pottery. But at the point of firing, a technique rediscovered by Maria and Julian Martinez is necessary. In this method, powdered cow dung is used to surround and cover a pot, thus blocking the entry of oxygen around the pot. The clay is impregnated with black soot and what could have been a red pot, becomes black.

Just be cool and treat them with respect. (and don't tell them any stories about your "indian ancestors from Cherokee)

lly wanted to check out an Indian Reservation but I've been told they are rough as hell and HATE white people more than Obama does.

You think? Good reason for that.

Kill their people and take their land.

The Choctaw Indian Reservation in MS looks pretty much like the rest of the area. Except for the 2 casinos and hotels, water park, and golf courses.

I passed through Gallup, New Mexico and there are reservations off the Interstate. Not pleasant looking. We stopped in Gallup to eat and I asked one of the locals if they were from around there and she said "yes, well from the reservation." From that remark it was evident to me that she didn't even consider herself to live in the local community. It kind of took me aback.

My dad goes on one in Nebraska every year hunting. He said all they do is smoke week and try to get money from the whites any way possible. They poach big deer then try and sell the antlers to hunters or tell hunters they will guide them to trophy deer and just take their money.

Been in Cherokee, NC many times though. Can't believe that one hasn't been mentioned yet.

They're super trashy - everyone smokes and every facility looks like the dmv

Lots of tats on chicks and like 7.6 piercings per ear on average

I was on two Sunday. Stopped in Oklahoma twice on the way back from Kansas. One stop was for food. I found out I do not like Fry bread. The other was to check out a giant casino.

Previously I have been to the Navajo nation, the Creek nation and the Cherokee nation.

Some reservations are more prosperous than others, but it's plain to see they were given the worst of the worst when it comes to land.

It's not a tourist attraction. You have no business being there.

Some are. The Navajo and Cherokee reservations lean heavily on tourist dollars.

Actually there was a ton of silver and turquoise jewelry now that you say that. I didnt care, as a 15 year old boy, but the wo.en folk were raving over it and the prices.
