I do hobby photography. My wife only likes it when I take her picture on 35mm film because I take a lot more care to set up the shot. shite's expensive to process, so you gotta make every shot count ....
Then get a Mamiya RB67 and really make her happy. I'd say a 4x5 but I bet she doesn't have the patience.

“Could be candid snaps, you know. Taken on holiday….”
First thing I thought of when I read the OP.

I’ve been the photographer waaaaay more than the photographed. I went on a boat outing with my.sister , we both had cameras. I took a zillion photos of her, also of the swamp, the gators, the birds . She was smiling at the camera, happy to be in shots, well aware of being photographed . After a couple of hours I realized she had never once turned her camera towards me, but had taken only photos of the scenery and animals. That’s fine, but I deleted every photo of her I had taken that day. She knew I was a combination hurt/pissed, and didn’t dare ask to see them.
Most people do like to feel like they were present at an outing, on a vacation, at an event. So include everyone.. if you take pics of your wife, husband, parents, kids, friend, or their kid or dog, just send them the photos in an email, (then delete from your storage any you don’t want to keep). It costs nothing and is a nice thing to do, takes zero effort, and there is literally a camera in your hand.

My wife isn't that needy.
Neither one of us do social media other than me coming here and interacting. I don't have BookFace or InstaChat or anything else. She has a FB but only scrolls to point and laugh at the Look At Me's.
I know I'm probably taking this in a different direction than you intended. Lol.

This is an awkward topic for me...
She likes to take pics of us and I'm fine with that.
I'll take one of here, but she always has to see if she likes it.

If you haven't taken any pictures of your wife ... would you like to buy some?

My wife has a whole album on her phone that is nothing but pictures of me sleeping in odd places.

Serious response, I made it a conscious effort to NOT take pictures a long time ago.
I felt like I missed out on so many true memories and emotions because I was staring at it through a phone screen. I keep the phone in my pocket and enjoy the moment, unless someone asks me to take a picture. Kid with a fish, wife with the kids, etc.
If I'm not told, I'm enjoying the moment. Ask yourself this, will you go through your album and revisit memories more often than you will remember the moment in your mind? Most people never look at pictures again, they just take them to put on socials.

Same. I loathe taking pics. I do take pics of my wife……by the pool.

They are great to have when you lose someone you love.

Starting out in my adult life I took pictures of everything anytime I did anything halfway interesting to post to socials. At some point I had to question if I were doing those things just for the photo opportunities. Now I make it a point to not take pics no matter how cool the thing is and just live in the moment. Probably go too far on the other side of the spectrum, tbh

I would rather live in the moment than have my phone out taking pictures all of the time

Then be present. Make memories. You don’t have to take a picture of everything that you do, or be included in a picture everywhere that you go.
