He should be charged. There is no greater responsibility as an adult than to protect and watch after children. This idiots negligence took a child's life. Being an idiot that is related to a child shouldn't let him off the hook for his negligence.

What a tough situation. Ultimately he was negligent for what he did, but still tough.

My only legal guess is that if they can find him "guilty" of manslaughter, his civil case against the cruise ship company very likely would get thrown out. So, my guess is that Royal Caribbean is behind this in some way.

I have zero problem with royal Caribbean doing this. The family suing the cruise line because the gramp is an idiot is complete bullshite.

I'm not sure I'm good with that verdict.

But unlike the cases where a toddler is left in a car to die in the heat this really looks like an accident.

I'm sure the grandfather wishes HE were dead and he will be soon.

This really does look like an accident.

parents blamed the cruise line company, Royal Caribbean,

I'm guessing that the cruise company is pushing for criminal negligence charges to avoid lawsuit or something. not sure how that all works.

Why does someone have to be at “fault “ I t was an accident so the cruise ship isn’t at fault and grandpa should not be be punished more than he is. I think that gramps is responsible to care for the child and he did not. Them suing the cruise line is the post accident issue here.

What if he had malicious intent? Doesn’t that child deserve justice?

Can’t imagine a worse feeling in the world knowing you’re responsible for your own flesh and bloods death. Anello will somehow have to live with that burden for the rest of his life and pray his own kids will somehow forgive him.

Dude is never gonna pick up his granddaughter again. I feel like that’s enough in this case

Except that his family sues the cruise line if there’s no charges. So there’s no good outcome here.

1. Charge him, no lawsuit
2. Don’t charge him, family dues cruise line

What if he was drunk, or just slightly intocx? Same as drunk driving and backing over your child in the driveway? It was just an accident.

FWIW - what’s the difference if he were staying on the 11th of a decent hotel and picked his GD up and sat her on the rail of the balcony.

Ships follow code for safety. This all on Pops.

Leaving a small child by an 11th story window is about as smart as leaving a loaded gun on the table near them and waking away. I'm certainly not saying prison or jail time, but 2-3 years of probation seems adequate here.

Because the family sued the cruise line, had this not happened, these charges wouldn’t of been put on him. Once the family pressed for money, someone had to be at fault.

I don’t think he should not be charged.

He is probably crushed and this is adding injury to insult
So you do think he should be charged?

I do not think you should not be able to not take a job not being an Air Traffic Controller.

I wouldn’t have sued RC based on what I know, maybe the criminal charges are related?

Toxicology reports have not been released. Let’s wait until the investigation concludes before making any assumptions.

Eric Clapton did the same thing and became a millionaire by writing a song about it.

I still have no idea what they are talking about. How can you not tell a window is open right in front of you?

The grandfather is punished every single day. It was an accident, a truly tragic one.
