My eldest female is having trouble in her back end but still is excited come feeding time and likes being in the sun and rolling in the grass. When this joy is no longer in her daily life, then I will think about it. She does snore like a freight train, passes gas, and sleeps about 90% of the time.

They will also come to your house in the morning and evening if you want them to. I could just put the cages in my guest house and give them a door code if I have to.

Brother, I just put mine down last Friday morning after 12yrs by my side. I was a fricking wreck leading up to it, walking into the vet, and during the euthanasia process. I cried a LOT, but I will tell you that almost immediately afterwards, I found peace in my decision and peace knowing that the suffering was done. The hardest part is leading up to it, but its MUCH better and honestly a big relief in a way once it's completed. A week has gone by and I think about him and smile.

Baw there is no easy way to do this other than you have to be strong for your human and canine family, they are counting on you. Sometimes being strong now and being sad later is the best way to do this.
Take her to the vet, stay in the room for the entire process. Be strong for the pup and for the family. Keep it boxed up for now.
Once you get out of the building, rip a cig if you need.
Put the kids to bed and feel free to have a couple Jack Daniels and be really upset. My girl dog was minorly sick last few days and it scares the heck out of me. I've had boy dogs most of my life and loved all them, and yet this sweet girl might be my favorite ever. She is nuts about me and my family. Happy to see us every time we walk into the room or even glance at her.

My Daisy crossed the bridge a bit ago. The worst part was the process and anticipation. . I’m relieved that her suffering is over yet I feel empty and maybe in between waves of grief.

Been through it 8 times in 30 years. I'm sure she gave you unconditional love her whole life. She'll be lying on a table. Make sure you're right in front of her stroking her head and that you're the last thing she sees.

I feel for you.
You feel like they will always be around, but the time together is short. Just remember she gave you a better life and you paid back in kind.

sorry to hear that. I had to do that in January for the first time
still haven't even fully mourned or processed it because I just numb the pain with my vices

It’s just terrible. I held mine as he was put down, still haunts me, even though it was the right thing to do.

It is so strange that we are more humane to animals suffering at the end of their life than we are to humans. We do not afford humans the same opportunity to put themselves out of misery.

I did it twice recently.

I’ve cried like 6 times in my life, not tough, just not a cryer. Even when I do, it’s like a tear or two. I boo hooed for so long after I put my first dog down I didn’t think it would ever stop. I had to do it and then go to work, calling out sick wasn’t an option. One of the hardest days of my life.
