Gary is very empty these days. Ironically it's much safer than it was in decades past because there's just very few people there anymore.
Edit: But apparently those few remaining are still proud of their craft. 2 utility workers shot at. They must not need power that badly.

Look at the weather, they don’t need a generator. Hell, they have basements that probably stay cool enough to keep fruits and vegetables. It sucks to not have power, especially for a business but a business could get a generator. But actual comfort of life is not nearly as bad as in the southern heat and humidity of August.
Their pools (lol I know it’s Gary, Indiana) are almost too cold to swim right now. My aunts pool in Chicago is really only usable warm from about late June to early August. These August cool fronts in the 50s they get usually make the pool too cold

Exactly how long do you think it generator would last in Gary? The natives would have that stolen, stripped of copper and in a river somewhere within hours of delivery.
