Shooting at the people trying to restore power. Also, bad.
But it's totally on par for Gary. I like near South Bend and have to ride through Gary on 80/90 to get to Chicago every other week or so. It's a dedicated "no stop zone". I'll piss myself in the car before I stop there for a bathroom.
Nothing good happens or comes out of Gary these days, and on top of the safety concerns the entire city smells like literal shite from the sewage treatment and industry on the harbor.
Place is just absolute peak shithole.

Gary is one of the most blighted and crime infested cities in America.
It would be like East New Orleans losing power.

Why Gary, Why?
Michael Jackson was from Gary.
And oh the irony of the fact that I have carried a picture of Michael Jackson in my wallet since I was a Senior in High School.
I am sure there is someone on Tigerdroppings who can verify the story. If you see me at Twin Peaks later today...come ask me and I will show you.
Don't ask me why, Jody, why?, because I don't know. Actually I do but it's for several reasons.

Not going to lie, the best response I could expect from this.

Half of Gary, Indiana has been without power for +10 days. Northwest Indiana in general is wrecked.
This was from the 16th
quote:
Nearly 130,000 utility customers statewide remained without power as of Sunday afternoon, down from a peak of around 300,000, according to the online utility tracker PowerOutage.us.
This was from today
quote:
As of Sunday morning, just over 28,000 customers of the Northern Indiana Public Service Company, the region's electrical utility provider, were still without power. At the height of the storms, 374,500 customers had no electricity.
Considering the flooding didn't start to recede until the 16th and all of the trees down along with shootings pausing it on the 15th this doesn’t seem too bad as far as the effort on restoring electricity goes. It still sucks for the over 28,000 people. EDIT: Not sure exactly where the 28,000 are located like if inside the city limits or outside to know if close to half the actual city.
EDIT2: Just saw specific Gary numbers at 11am today.
quote:https://wgntv.com/northwest-indiana/nipscos-latest-outage-numbers-gary-mayor-provides-update-at-wgn/
Gary, Northwest Indiana’s second-largest city, makes up the majority of the current outages, with 13,890 customers still without power as of 11 a.m. Sunday, according to NIPSCO’s outage map.

A class action lawsuit was already filed.

A class-action lawsuit was filed this week against NIPSCO, alleging the company failed to proactively trim back vegetation from power lines. The lawsuit alleges that downed trees and vegetation were the primary causes of the power outages.

Is Gary short for Garrison? Just wondering.??
No it was named for Judge Elbert Gary, Chairman of US Steel Company, when the town was built outside the Gary works of USS.

Agreed.
I have family in Carmel, they've been telling me it's bad there (not Carmel).

Thanks for trying to minimalize the impact.
It really is ok to let people have a shitty time without trying to quantify them.

There's plenty of Garrison's out there. My son is playing Among Us with his friend Garry right now.

Gary Danielson and Gary, Ind. are reason enough.

If the power goes out in Gary, IN does anyone notice?
Posted on 8/23/26 at 3:00 pm to fightin tigers
I know a guy heading up there with several industrial grade generators to help.
They don’t have those on hand like we do on the gulf coast.
