It's not a big deal if you want your kid to play competitive soccer. The issue is how early you want to start them in that environment. It's your kid do what you want.

If you are worried about the competition level of your kids 5-9ish then you might want to take a deep breath. You can make sure your kid is getting quality instruction in a bunch of ways. Sometimes in lesser leagues kids don't receive the best foundational instruction b/c there's some mom or dad forced into a coaching roll. I've always coached my kids in Y ball b/c we only want to play one game on the weekends and not 4. That doesn't mean I can't have a structured practice where my kids are learning how to play the game correctly. It just gives them more time to be kids at a young age.

I've coached and ran baseball leagues for years. Competitive and rec levels from tball on up to HS summer ball. I figured out a long while back that some people are just desperate for attention. ANY attention. Even negative is good. They mostly have no serious concern in what they are bitching about, they just want everyone to focus on them and reply/egg on/retaliate to them.

i dunno anything about soccer...like zero other than my youngest was an a-hole on the field and only wanted to play defense and tackle people

but i can say that in baseball....by 10, if you arent playing at a high level then you are going to be big time behind and its hard to catch up unless you put tons and tons of time in and lessons.

dont get me wrong, its very easy for a kid that is on a high level team to fall behind quickly too if they arent busting their arse outside of practice too.

i dunno if soccer is that away though. just saying the whole...dont be worried about competetion level at 9...doesnt apply to all sports unfortantely.

i wish LA had the funds like Texas to keep 25 or more freshman like the big texas schools do and allow kids to develop after puberty...unfortunately even 5a schools can really only keep 10-12 absolute max and most of the time its less than 10

sucks its like that and forces kids to really, not specialize, but focus on one sport early with the others playing secondary.

i know soccer is really really competitive at 11-14u and in private High schools, so would imagine its similar. All the kids i know that have played decently high level soccer in HS all were in club of some form by 7. My oldest has a kid that is going to europe all summer as he was invited by one of the clubs over there and he is only 7th grade. so it gets competitive stupid quickly too

Football and basketball are the only sports you can really "catch up" in. You just have to be athletic and not tiny.

You should have rescheduled practice for Tueday, then told her, C U Next Tuesday.

Or, invited her for coffee, then had a big woman come through and kneecap her.

Uncoachable kids become unemployable adults. Sounds like this mom is proving that to be true.

I started a topic similar to this last month. Parents are the worst. On my u7 team I got a lot more stern with parents after my thread. I haven’t kicked off any parents but i had to warn them.

One parent in particular is bad and another parent told her to stfu. I made that guy the unofficial assistant coach right then and there ( I am sole coach because no one volunteered). So between the two of us, we just manage the parents and focus on the kids.

You probably prevented her son from getting a scholarship by failing to make up that practice.

Congrats! But Soccer overseas is different than baseball here. They have academies, etc. Liverpool played "Klopp's Kids" in a big time match last week because so many people were injured (average age 18?). Baseball, you're looking at getting a 1/3 scholarship to play first base at LSU? How does this math work?

Moms are horrible. The majority are Karens. They talk, chat, talk, complain, F off (I'm not a coach). But, there are dads whose kids play offense (attack dads), probably in any sport. I'm not behind the goal because I'm just here to snag balls, it's because I can't stand to listen to you idiots trying to coach, and telling your supa star Braxton (that is surely getting a full ride to Notre Dame,) to try to humiliate the kids that play defense. Yes, I already have noise canceling headphones.

Now on the baseball thing…man it’s not about a scholarship, dunno why yall always bring that up. Just to make a high school team at a really good school you have to be pretty elite, that’s just to make a team.

A team like Catholic, the Catholic league schools, barbe, Sam Houston, stm, west Monroe , AP schools etc

As far as the rest…I have never been to a travel soccer club game but have heard the moms are the worst but yall say that about everyone that doesn’t just sit on their hands too so hard to know the truth.

And how dare they cheer their kid on

6 and 7 is way too old to be playing co-ed.

I guess it would make it hard to prepare for the under 8 World Cup in Munich this summer.

Are these kids living with their families during this preparation phase? Time to take them to Junction, Texas and find out who wants to play soccer and who wants to chase butterflies.
