The U.S. is “unlikely” to develop herd immunity to COVID-19, Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday, due to the likely combination of only a partially effective vaccine and the large number of people who refuse to take it.

quote:

Fauci said he would “settle” for a coronavirus vaccine that is 70% to 75% effective. By comparison, a measles vaccine is 97% to 98% effective. “That would be wonderful if we get there,” Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease expert, said. “I don’t think we will. I would settle for a 70, 75% effective vaccine.”

quote:

“There is a general anti-science, anti-authority, anti-vaccine feeling among some people in this country — an alarmingly large percentage of people, relatively speaking.” “We have a lot of work to do” on educating the public about a potential vaccine, Fauci said. “It’s not going to be easy.”

This is unsurprising when it becomes clearer by the day that the authorities, both government and scientific, have been pretty unscientific about this thing from the start.

Look, I’m no anti-vaxxer, but the fastest vaccine humankind has ever turned out took seven years to test, validate, and manufacture. I know we can speed it up with more resources, but I don’t want to be the first in line for a very expedited vaccine for which we may not fully understand the side effects.

Especially considering I don’t consider myself in an at risk group even if I do contract COVID

In the last 3 months, he has changed his mind a plethora of times. Why do we still listen to him, or publicize what he says?

Will never let you leave your homes again.

Perfect is the enemy of good, and this a-hole won't give you an iota of freedom until there are zero deaths anywhere.

That's true.

With respect to a vaccine, the question becomes would you take very rushed vaccine (relatively speaking) which may not be totally effective to prevent the risk of contracting a virus with a very low death rate?

Personally I find it comical. I can't wait to see the next contradiction to himself he makes.

It's kind of like when Fox News is about to show a new Biden clip. I find myself watching in anticipation like I'm watching LSU on a 3rd and 15.
