If you are as close as you say you were in your post then the only answer is to attend the funeral, pay your respects, and support your friend.
If it was a casual friend or a high school bud you hadn't spoken to in 10 years the situation would be different.
My $0.02

I found out tonight that the burial is set for June 10th in Atlanta.
I am at a loss on how to handle this.
I'd tell him what's happened. See if he's okay with you coming spend a few days with him after the funeral.
I can tell you that those days immediately following the funeral are the hardest.
And having someone there for that period of grief may end up being just what the doctor ordered.

I will and, if you need a message board to help you make the decision then

if you *really* dont need to be there you wouldn’t be asking this question. Since you are asking, you already know the answer
figure it out and be where you need to be when you need to be there

I’d drive to Florida’s on the 9th, fly from Florida to Atlanta either evening of the 9th or morning of the 10th and then head back the evening of the tenth. Can’t be more than an hour or so flight

Exactly what I was just looking at. Would be 600 bucks but could be the best answer to this situation.

You should offer to take your friend's Dad on vacation with you and your wife. Tell em you'll have him back on the 12th.

Is there ever times that a church service is held a day or days before the burial? His mom told me “he is right now scheduled to be buried on the 10th and she is figuring out the service. I don’t want to be a dick and come out asking if it’s a different day, but it would solve my problem.
Go ahead and ask her if she can reschedule the funeral to solve your problem. We know you only came here for validation to do whatever you want. What are your TikTok and IG accounts so we can like and follow?

I personally never put a lot of stock in funerals. (Or visiting a gravesite for that matter). When close family or friends have died, I did my grieving before the actual funeral. It seemed like the ceremony was more for the people outside the family to pay their respects. The memory of a person is what I grieve, not their lifeless corpse.
Maybe I’m just an a-hole though

So how pissed is your wife gonna be if you go to the funeral?
If he’s your best friend, he’ll understand. Likewise, so should your wife.

I like this out of the box thinking. "Hi, as flyAu proxy, I would like to offer my condolences."

My grandpa used to never go to his friends funerals. Said they weren’t going to his so why should he go to theirs.

Send flowers and an apology that you were out of town and despite all efforts were unable to make the funeral. I have had to do that many times.

Hey I know your dad, who was like my second dad, just died and you’re crushed right now. However I planned this vacation with my wife and I won’t get my money back if I cancel so I won’t be at the funeral.
Say that to yourself in the mirror so you can see what a soulless prick you are.

Well, a few months ago you wouldn't even be allowed at the funeral... life goes on.
Seriously, it was WAY more important to see him before he died than after he died.

You’re best friend will bury his dad once. You will have many more vacations. Don’t be a dick.
