Any company would gladly hire this guy for a generic office role such as billing specialist, customer service specialist, etc

The state or county govt would also likely hire this guy

Nah, they'd say he's overqualified and wouldn't hire him because he would (understandably) be firing off resumes even after he's hired because he's truly overqualified.

Something else major is part of this, and it's not the job market. A son of a friend grad from Tulane in architecture, can't get a job, but he has piercings and tats all over his face, go figure.

Looking for a job in Utah is like opening a surfing school in Utah

His problem sounds geographical. Houston is ground zero for the CE field

I bet he has a personality test on file with a job placement company that has a bunch of red flags on it.

It is something that puts him in Class B of applicants.

Overqualified for many jobs with the PhD.

I’d remove the PhD, apply for a new set of jobs, and see how that works out.

If he lands a job, work while looking for a spot with the PhD back on the resume.

We were so worried about the invasion from Mexico that we overlooked the H1B1 invasion.

I've heard it's brutal out there for white collar jobs. Tough to even get past the AI gates and into actual interviews.

The thing I hear the most is that people can’t find a job.

The thing I hear almost as often is employers saying they can’t find anyone that is qualified,

When you finally find someone who is qualified, they can’t pass the drug test,

I guarantee if he applied for jobs from Houston to BR at each of the O&G Companies and Consulting Firms, he would have landed a job.

There is a limited number of O&G jobs here in the SLC area and WAY more in Wyoming. I can think of 3-4 refineries right off the top of my head along the Wasatch front (Cheveron, Marathon & Big west).

And this doesn't begin to mention opportunities at the U of Utah or BYU.

He could get a job as a frac engineer or mud engineer. He just doesn’t want to get his hands dirty.
