With this kind of PhD he can get a job at a firm like Citadel and make $25K a month as an intern. A lot of quant jobs for STEM PhDs absolutely smoke the trades.

Holiday coming up, go work for FedEx or UPS.
Better than complaining for wo years with no job.

I've heard it's brutal out there for white collar jobs. Tough to even get past the AI gates and into actual interviews.
Glad I'm not on the hunt.
I'm passively looking. There are jobs but everything is a downgrade.

correct.

Well that's one solution to these people's problems. But a lot of people don't want the risks or the headache of running your own business.

Any company would gladly hire this guy for a generic office role such as billing specialist, customer service specialist, etc
Sure, in India.

To be fair. He's a young white heterosexual male. The big oil corporations, like Exxon etc, are passing over them in droves.
The only way to get a decent job these days is to know someone in the right place at the right time.

Also he's coming out of school at the point the competition is the highest.

I agree with this.
PHD in Chemical Engineering? Yeah bullshite

Almost every big school with a ChemE department is hiring, many at open rank levels. Be a non-tenure track faculty member, as an American offers would roll in. The salary would be between 85-100k on 9 month contracts, but there’s tons of ChemE openings in academia currently

All that education and this guy never made any worthwhile connections? Smells like he’s not seriously looking for jobs, looking for jobs he’s not qualified for, or has terrible social skills.

I call bullshite for a Chem E

This dude is likely being extremely niche and picky with the type of jobs he is applying too
Those are my exact thoughts especially when ole dad says "he is environmentally conscious."
He is likely refusing the market where most Chemical Engineers work Oil&Gas or Chemical Manufacturing along the Gulf Coast.
Additionally he is probably demanding "Ivy League" doctorate pay for entry level jobs that don't care about post graduate work or where your degree is from.
Most of the other 30 year old Chem E's typically have 8 years experience which is worth a lot more than a PhD to prospective employers.
Although, I am shocked with his credentials and what I assume is his parent's background why he hasn't found a job in academia.

HR and the idiots employed therein have screwed an untold number of people. So many stories out there about execs firing entire departments because they weren’t paying attention to the screening filters.

There's definitely more to this story. He's probably showing up for his interviews with his own coffee.

STEM grad students have work experience teaching classes, managing student workers, and running experiments. The problem is that a lot of industry doesn’t really do a great job of understanding how a PhD translates.

He probably doesn't know how to check the oil in his car. He lives in Utah. He absolutely could get a job at Sclumberger in Vernal or Halliburton in Roosevelt if he knew how to work and could swing a hammer. He probably thinks oil is evil. There probably are not many chemical engineering jobs for specialists in butt hair bleach.

I'm sure he could get a job, just not where he wants to live
Probably. Which is stupid.
