I've heard it's brutal out there for white collar jobs. Tough to even get past the AI gates and into actual interviews.
Truth. I just left my company after 10 years for a bit of a promotion. It should be a better opportunity to build wealth in the long run, but it was scary making the switch considering I am a white male entering my 50s.

With my part time gig finally coming to a close as we finish our contracts, I technically haven't had a full time job in 10 months.
I've been applying for equivalent positions since then, repeatedly passed over because they assume I'm out as soon as I secure something like the part time gig full time.
The reality is, if I still wanted to herd elderly cats and run a firm, I'd do it. I don't.
I spent the last 12 years working two full time jobs, one in sales, one very much not... I can't say either one is pulling me back to it...

quote:get a PhD in chem eng and this boomer retard says, "learn a trade." you moron, wages in trades are suppressed by foreigners that the trade conglomerates exploit at the expense of American craftsmen, too. it's not just white collar.
Learn a trade.. make alot of money
no, instead, we're going to deport 100 million foreigners, regardless of the tears of AWFLs and the effeminate men who orbit them hoping for a scrap or two of pussy.

There's definitely something wrong with this guy that he's not telling.
I don't believe for a second he couldn't get a job in oil and gas if he wanted, but I bet he doesn't want to relocate to the south or a rural area.
It's also odd he doesn't mention an internship, unless I missed that part.

Network, network, network as much as possible in person with people you KNOW who have any connection(s) to your interests. It’s too easy for people to avoid you or blow you off via online/social media. Fortunately or unfortunately, more often than not, in the successful job search process, the saying “it’s not WHAT you know, it’s WHO you know” is so true. Like it or not.
