ER is the first place to go. They will send to mental ward.

It’s sad our kids are dealing with this and it’s being discussed by us. As a part of society and an adult I feel like “we” have failed. We need to fix this soon.

I totally agree with your point, but it’s about much more than that. As a society, we’ve taken away many opportunities for young children to engage in unsupervised play and to practice independence. My son’s elementary school just put a gate up around the school and made it unavailable to children and parents after school. They did this because of the infinitesimally small chance that some pervert might come onto school ground and abduct a child. Without a place to play, the kids just go home and sit in front of a screen. Last summer, I told my 11 and 8 year olds to leave the house on their bikes for two hours a day. There were never any kids out to play with. Our neighborhood is very safe. We rob kids of opportunities to learn independence and then wonder why the real world seems unbearable.

Upending kids lives over a disease that really didn't affect children seems to be working out great.
.

The primary problems are social media, smart phones, and also restricting kids from doing outside activites unsupervised over unwarranted and sensationalized fears of abduction etc (John Walsh effect) and the subsequent lack of regular play, experience based learning, social interactions, etc. How much tech has changed childhood for most kids cannot be overstated. The child mental health crisis was already obvious before Covid but it has gotten worse. It will continue to worsen unless radical changes are made on the front end to restrict tech and increase play and prevent these problems. More care on the back end to treat is inefficient and wrongheaded

Fun fact. In Alabama, children 14 and older can refuse medical care against the wishes of their parent/guardian. Think about that. So, if you have a disturbed child, that disturbed individual can refuse treatment.

It’s fricking crazy.

Not necessarily, how and why you implement those things matter more.

Unfortunately iPads and electronics are being used at school for as part of course curriculum. That being said one disadvantage is that it does disconnect you from the real world and emf transmission can alter mood and behavior.

We are a society in chaos. We celebrate mental illness instead of treating it.

Thanks democrats

We can play semantics, but this isn’t really a mental health issue, it’s a parenting issue. The manifestation of that is a kid that has no idea what suicide even is or the ramifications of it.

Take the internet capable devices out of their hands and make them play outside. Parent based on what’s best for the child, not just what’s easier for you.

Well, here's an idea. Don't go to the emergency room for psychiatric care, or to buy tires. Don't go for a runny nose, or your foot that began hurting a tiny bit two years ago.

Go to the emergency room for emergency medical conditions.

When 15 year old Jaxson is cutting his arms, threatening to burn down the house, smashing property, and generally going apeshit, what would you do instead of going to the ER (where they might be able to give him some drugs to at least temporarily address the issues)?

You can call 911 and let some deputy taze him and drag him off to jail or maybe a psych ward if there is one in the area. You can call a psychiatrist and make an appointment for 5 months out, if you can find one in the area that takes new patients. And you may need to pay cash. Finding one who'll take your kid and your insurance is not easy.

The ER is not an ideal way to address it, but there aren't a lot of good options for parents of psycho kids when they go into meltdown mode.

you know what would really help with this?

if we shut down schools, playgrounds, daycares, etc for 2 years, forced them to stay at home, only socialize on social media, and get vaccinated for a virus that largely does not in any way effect healthy children. (something we knew pretty quick into the pandemic)

glad we did that.

Amen.

Instead, what kids will continue to get is a prescription or adjunct prescriptions to "enhance" the current medication(s.)

This typically just leads to fat, unmotivated, listless kids that are constantly being told how wonderful and perfect they are in spite of every fiber of their being telling them this is all wrong.

Good Job, women and soy boy Doctors. Behold your creations.

Most if that is not mental illness in itself, rather, a child's response to a chaotic home life. Abusive or neglectful parenting is going to draw out aggressive behavior in many children. They'll get inaccurately diagnosed bipolar or adhd so that they can be prescribed meds that are actually meant to control impulsiveness and violence. Nothing gets fixed at home and the cycle continues.

They need to reflect on their parenting. 80% of the time the behavior of the child is a reaction to their crappy parenting.

Modern medicine fetishizes suicide and thus creates a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Muh suicide muh self harm.
