re: Belgium with some salty tears ETA UEFA in on the crying too now
Posted by DandA on 7/5/26 at 5:42 pm to Adam Banks
That's rich coming from the team that needed the softest penalty call I've ever seen, from VAR, to advance. Let the Belgian tears flow
They just couldn't hide from the criticism of their referees making "mistakes" anymore after that horrific display of officiating yesterday. Had to save face somehow.
HOLY frick WE ARE SO BACK
Should be some absolute bangers today. Norway and Brazil should be a high scoring thriller. As much as I dislike Man City, I really enjoy watching Haaland and want him to get back up there in the golden boot race.
For the life of me, I absolutely HATE to pull for England on July 4th weekend, but frick MEXICO. An England win will make their fans even more insufferable than they already are. They are quite literally the soccer version of Dallas cowboys fans. Every year is "their year" and haven't really accomplished shite in decades.
Oh and frick MEXICO.

That was shameful officiating.
That's putting it lightly. The fact that Paraguay didnt get a single card is a travesty.
To go from the extremely unnecessary red for Balo from a ref that was involved in a match fixing investigation to that match in a matter of days really puts a bad stain on what has been a fairly good officiated WC so far. FIFA really needs to take a hard look at who they are trusting to officiate some of the most important games of the biggest sporting event in the world.
I haven't taken the time to go out of my way to watch Pepi's tape, but in the few times I've seen him play over the past year or two with the US, nothing has impressed me or made me realize, "Oh, THAT is why he's on the team." No hate or shade at the kid, I want him to succeed, but I haven't seen anything yet.
re: What is your bar for describing this World Cup as "successful" for USMNT?

Before the WC, I felt that with the expanded field and extra knockout round that just making the Quarters would be a success for this team. Whether we got blown out or not.
However, after seeing how this team is capable of playing, and how the bracket has panned out, making the Semis is now my goal.

As much as I loathe the rainbow hair, batshit crazy modern leftist, deep blue city political mindset, I will 100% give Seattle, LA, and even San Fran their flowers when it comes to how much support they have thrown behind our guys this year so far. Especially Seattle. They are sports fanatics up there. Let's appreciate their support and patriotism, whether temporary or not, because they will most definitely play a role on Monday vs Belgium.
frick FIFA. We will keep this train going regardless of their bullshite. What I'd like to see is the American sports media to have a backbone along with some national pride and BLAST the image or video of Messi doing the same exact thing, but not receiving any kind of card. Show them that we see the hypocrisy clearly. Ohh, and ban the FIFA president from attending any more US games as long as we are still alive in the tourney.
I want Haji, Weah, and Gio involved vs Belgium.
This Belgium side has not lived up to the hype or their FIFA ranking this tournament and is a VERY winnable match. They barely squeaked by Senegal with one of the worst penalty calls I've seen in awhile, which Im glad about because Senegal would give us fits.
We owe Belgium an arse whipping for 14. LFG BOYS ITS OURS FOR THE TAKING.

I fricking love this team.

That was NOT a red card.

I have a feeling its going to come down to the last 15 minutes tonight, but we pull away late. Hell Bosnia may even score first. I want our starters to experience some adversity that they must overcome as a unit, and I'd rather that adversity happen tonight than vs. a Belgium or Senegal. I'm going 2-1 US with a Balo goal and a late Pulisic winner.
I'm hoping Belgium win. They haven't lived up to their hype so far and we owe them some knockout round justice. Senegal would give us a much bigger headache with their speed.

3. Messi’s #10 across soccer
Absolutely not.
Numbers in soccer are a legacy and meant to be passed down. Think of it like the number 7 and 18 for the LSU fans out there. Specific numbers have special meanings for specific teams, but also across the entire sport.
Your concern is noted.
How does the NFL survive when two teams that have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs have to face off? God forbid they play for pride, or at the very least exposure/name recognition in hopes of moving to a bigger club around the world.

No. We are not. We are at war with their tyrannical extremist Islamic government that the vast majority of Iranians want nothing to do with. Don't conflate the two.

As many others have said, its gotten very toned down this WC. Having to come off for a minute if you get "treatment" really has helped. All it really is currently is trying to sell a foul. You only have 1 ref and 2 linesman to keep tabs on 22 players, and if you're actually fouled you have to make sure the ref sees it and calls it. In the past, it was definitely much more of a time wasting/momentum killing act. It hasn't really been that bad this year.
Its really no different than an NBA player flailing his arms around looking for a foul when driving to the basket. Or an NFL player acting like they are having a stroke mid pass rush to make the refs call a holding penalty.

Not too many teams could handle the temperatures of SEC country in the summer. Nor could their fans. The feels like 108 temps can get dangerous. The Norwegians would sunburn in 3 minutes and melt by halftime
My only 2 gripes are the hydration breaks being way too long and then the late start time for the last game of the day. Everything else has been quite awesome.

Im a Cabo Verde fan now. Wow. They are going for it. Respect.
I wish I had saved it, but saw one that made me laugh. Something along the lines of, "The USMNT suddenly became one of the most complete teams in international soccer once we turned the game into 4 quarters. You connect the dots."
