Wonder how many will be shot down to get free food?

More interested to see how drones get food at most restaurants. Fly through or pick up?

Not even Door Dash drivers jobs are safe. The future looks terrible.

Will someone still try my food before it gets to me like regular DoorDash?

I hate the the nation we are turning into.

Any city that approves this crap, including the council members, should be on the hook for any danger they create. Just like approving autonomous cars that do stop crap in traffic or scooters being allowed on the roads. Etc etc etc

Them hiding behind the inability to not be held accountable for their stupid decisions, is ridiculous.

I just have visions of my food order laying in the middle of driveway rather than by my front door. Guess I could go outside and wait for it.

There will be a box/platform at participating restaurants where the order is placed for the drone to pick up, then it will be delivered to your home with enough accuracy the set it in a patio chair if you so choose. I have a friend that is working for one of these drone companies setting up in the Houston area.

I dont see the problem here... this will lower delivery costs, make delivery faster, and not have my food in someone elses car. Are we just bitching to bitch here? every other doordash thread has people bitching about how much it costs and how stupid people are for getting food delivered.

I like this idea so at 2am I don't have to play the game of "is it DoorDash my teenager ordered or a burglar I see on my Ring camera?"

If none of the obvious problems occur (damage to drones, infrastructure needed to dock them at restaurants, etc) then yes it will be cheaper. But I doubt it will be in the short run.

You also have to consider the noise pollution drones flying all over the place.

I’m not saying it’s a bad idea but the concerns aren’t just bitching.

Why not run a pipe into every house that delivers soup instead?

Could we get a beer pipe too

Instead of door dash or drone deliveries I'd prefer to have food delivered in a food truck like the ice cream man. Imagine hearing that music coming down the street and knowing you could run out and get tacos and margaritas.

Except it wont get passed down to customers and it will reduce jobs. Something we dont fricking need.

Two comments on that one.

1. I am not convinced these Driver Gig jobs are legit after the driver pays gas, wear and tear, 1099 taxes, etc. I haven't sat down and done the math but I would suspect these folks (many of whom are already on some form of public assistance) would be better off at a minimum wage job in the restaurant the food came from originally. So getting them off the streets might be the better move for society anyway.

2. I don't do a ton of food delivery but the people I have dealt with are generally a 2 of 10 on the reputable looking and smelling scale. I would greatly prefer my food take a restaurant-drone-me path.

Makes me sad I won’t get to hear the bass rattling off my and my neighbors’ windows while they stop in the middle of the street to deliver my food
