My strategy is to body shield my old lady as step one. Step/option two is to book it. And if/when I carry, that’s a situational option, too.

Especially when that weapon is a handgun, and extra mega especially when that weapon is a small handgun vs a rifle.

Even an untrained fat basement dweller is a force when he has on armor and a rifle and you have a subcompact single stack handgun

If I had a rifle for some reason I'd engage from a favorable position if I had one. With my CCW, I'm covering my escape and only engaging if I dont like my odds of getting out cleanly. Holding a 6 shot .40 while the bad guy is holding a rifle is a shite situation.

Yeah. Take cover and shoot back if I can.

ETA: I just pray that none of us ever have to go through an event like that. It’s not something I wish on anyone.

I gotta do active shooter training for my job. They tell you to run as far away as possible first. If not then hide in a place that is behind a door ideally with more people. Then in case you have to fight have a plan to attack in numbers. Someone take the feet. Someone take the head. Use anything around you as a weapon.

So now when I got to a public place I look for best places to hide and beat options to run.

Do you have a strategy to survive? Do you check to see where the exits are when you go somewhere? Do you keep your head on a swivel? Do you carry a gun? What's your plan? This is a legitimate question.

The odds of you getting shot by a mass shooter are astronomically low. You would need to go look for them.

I don't have a plan or strategy. It's not something I worry about at all.

There are a handful of shark attacks every year even though millions of people swim in shark infested waters every day. Shark attacks are nothing to worry about. Mass shooters are shark attacks. Live your life and quit worrying about something that rarely happens.

Carry

My favorite are the people saying that all the carriers yesterday ran and hid like cowards.

I think the more likely explanation is that there were no carriers. El Paso is a blue blue city in Texas full of mostly hispanics that just dont come across to me as the gun owning type compared to other Texas cities

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the real answer is guys who carry have to make a choice between "do I try to take down a guy in body armor with a long gun with my LCP, or do I try and get my wife and kids out of that situation ASAP"

I mean even if I’m carrying a pistol, I’m not trying to take on someone in body armor with an assault rifle. If he comes at me I’ll defend myself with a weapon but I’m not the fricking police just because I’m carrying.

I actively carry a 9mm & have thought about this numerous times. I believe it depends on the situation.

For example, if it’s a single shooter without any type of armor I believe I’d try to end the situation.

If it’s a couple guys with ARs then I’m going to try and find a way out. If that’s not feasible, then I’d try to fight my way out.

Granted this is all speculation, you can plan what you would do, but I imagine if you’re in this type of situation it’s more of a reaction rather than a rational thought process.

These shooters are running around with these high capacity clips. You might get a shot off at him but the minute he recognizes where that shot came from, you and your handgun had better be ready for a barrage of bullets returning your way.

Perhaps "a lot" of civilians was the wrong adjective. There are civilians I know who work hard, train hard, go to classes like the Sheepdog response courses and do what is needed to have the odds in their favor in an active shooter situation.

As far as AD vs. Veterans go, there is likely more veterans that can handle the deal than there are active duty. Most AD positions are very non-combat. Just the advantage of time give the veteran pool an advantage.

This is just false. Don't assume that all carriers are going to shoot back. Hell, in these active shooters situation, there is no warning. Some people are shot before they even have a chance to react. Unless said carrier is current/ex-military, or serve in the force, the chances of them actually getting the balls to shoot back is pretty low.

These monsters are coming in with full body armor with some high powered weaponry. Unless you have had training, youre more likely to shite yourself and run rather than to stay and fight.
