Not grungy but they dropped the glammy silly Cherry Pie type crap.
Ultraphobic didn't come out until 95 but it was more along the lines with AIC and Soundgarden type grungy-ness. Darker downtuned....

The #1 reason name brand stations add stuff to their gas is to be able to check that their stores are actually selling their products and not from another (cheaper) supplier. Sure some of them think their additives are better than others but that isn't their motivation....
