Obviously, Uber is always the better bet.
But beyond that, you should always be staying at least one drink, if not more, behind the bosses in that situation. Then they can’t exactly look down on you for how much you drank.

I don't drink with anyone I work with, seems to solve any number of potential problems.

I’ll have one, maybe two over dinner with work colleagues. Not pounding down four - it’s a bad choice for a variety of reasons. Several you are yet to get called out for.

Worked for HSSE-centric company in HSSE-centric industry.
A Region org of employees took driving safety course. It was held at a local hotel meeting facility. All day training, including classroom and driving in the city.
Class concluded, and the drinks started flowing in samr classrooms, after driving company departed. We learned driving safety. Then we were fed booze and drove home
Immature me thought it was great. Mature me now sees right through it.
Conclusion: culture eats business strategy for breakfast. Terrible leadership, as it played out.

Some people metabolize alcohol really fast. Some very slow.
If my wife had 4 drinks in a span of 2 hours, she'd be incapable. I could have 4 drinks in 2 hours and still be ok.
When I say "drink" I mean a beer, a regular 4.2% beer.
I don't frick with liquor.

When I was working, in that situation I was invariably driving a company and typically had to drop folks off at the hotels. I always had a few before dinner, and maybe one more with dinner before I would decline Alcoa and ask for a glass of water during the meal. That leaves me drinking water and having a meal before I had to drive again 2-3 hours later. Any further alcohol is partaken when safely back at the hotel.

Where on Earth is this “main office” that everyone has to rent a whole car instead of Ubering or walking to the hotel? I’ve always been in downtown somewhere for the 4 old fashioned corporate dinners.

One time my boss and I took a potential client out to Chilis. Ending up having a good time, cutting up and having drinks. My boss was pissed at first but changed her tune quick when we made the sale!

Well I’ve been here since 2005 at which time it was fitting until I guess 2011 or 12 and just quit. Just bored with it and tired of being tired.
In 2013 and twice in 2014 friends in 3 separate instances were killed by drunk drivers in the state of Louisiana and one in Texas.
Two of the incidents the drivers gave the standard “I only had a couple of beers.”
That’s a true statement they made. Like a commercial.
In 2026, with all of the ride-share options there is absolutely no excuse to get behind the wheel and drive after drinking. It’s not just irresponsible, it’s fricking criminal.
And I guess I’m glad I don’t live in the
delta. Apparently it’s alive and well and sounds like according to him somewhat encouraged.
The argument he makes regarding 1 ounce pours and heavy meal is a load of horseshite.
I drank for forty fricking years. I’m well aware what 4 drinks does and who’s to say it stopped at four? Maybe a quick nightcap while we say goodbye again. Maybe stop at a bar on the way to the hotel for another ? I mean what the hell, we’re cooking the expense account anyway.

We live in different states and arrive on different airlines at different times and some stay at different hotels. We go into office everyday that week. Not going to Uber to the office

How do we know it is four? How do we know he doesn’t do this weekly or more than weekly and what’s to stop at four then?
I mean the guy posted that he had four drinks with his fricking bosses and they ALL drive away. Not only does someone have to deal with one impaired driver but multiple. And he feels weird? How about the family of four heading in the opposite direction towards them. Weird? frick.
If he gets on here bragging and wondering if it’s weird that he has multiple drinks and gets in a company rental car and drive 100% this guy does this regularly perhaps in his own vehicle. Like that matters. Is he trying to justify it because his boss doesn’t too? fricking boss needs to go too.
