That's a long time ago... It snows here at least once a year

Indeed and BR doesn’t have the equipment to deal with that much snow. Hell we had issues last week in panhandle. For an area that has people accustomed to driving in snow it reminded me of being in BR. Cars and trucks in ditches everywhere. I just got my happy arse home and started cooking.

We live close to a levee and the kids are already talking about finding something we can use as a sleigh to use.

I never even really thought about my pine trees. I have around 15 of them lining my property on two sides. As much as a tropical storm and we leave. Not even going to risk it. The branches from probably 3-4 of them would be able to reach my roof. Should I be considering getting everybody out for this?

It’s not typical for the downward pressure of snow weight to bring a whole pine tree down. Instead, the limbs will break off since pine limbs are weak and easily break where the limb meets the trunk. Also pine limbs are usually quite small in size and weight compared to oak limbs so they don't usually do much damage to roofs. Maybe a knock of a few shingles or damage a gutter.

Hurricanes are much different since the pressure comes from wind force thats perpendicular to the trunk. Thats what causes the trees to uproot or snap in half. Snow wont cause this.

If I were you, I would only be concerned if the pine trees are leaning towards your home, which indicates the trees are less capable of handling downward pressure.

That was a fun day. Wife and I, pre kids, acted like teenagers all day playing in the snow.
A top 10 day of my life. I still remember the NWS forecast—“possibly a half inch of slush”

Couldn’t see the sky for the snow. Wet bulb like never before.

I’m sad that it appears I will end up with very little to nothing out of this system. You folks in the impact area enjoy it!

My step-grandma and uncle are in Panama City. They might see 5" of snow!

We are currently on I 10 headed west from Baton Rouge to the Lafayette area and there are several emergency response team convoys with Georgia plates. It’s all bucket trucks, so I’m not sure if it’s electric companies or tree companies as it is not indicated further than emergency response Interesting for sure.

The damn geese just keep increasing in number, and they are loud! All just flying back and forth like they're lost.

if you're able to find waxed cardboard boxes, they work great and last a long time...when i was a kid, my grandfather was a party chief for a drilling crew...they would get dynamite that came in waxed boxes, and he would bring the boxes home for us to use...man, that was so much fun...

How do we account for shrinkage in this cold weather?
