Consumer Reports is run by a bunch of lefties all in on the global warming hype. It's no surprise they give this bullshite information.

Reminds me of the movie "Daddy's Home 2" when the girl kept setting the thermostat to that and all the men went into freakout mode!

Pretty sure one of the earliest, if not the first, episode of "Family Guy" had a good bit on this.

Energy efficiency based off the article. If you're going to have it on 82 you might as well have it off most of the time. I don't know anyone under 80 years old that would be comfortable in that.

Exactly why I question the basis. What's the difference, in terms of sleep quality, between 82 and 83? Or 82 and 85?

Why have it set at 78 when your're just hanging out, but 82 for sleep? I understand the core temperature drops while sleep so you can "tolerate" a warmer temperature, but the numbers seem arbitrary.

Actual experts have placed the optimal temperature for sleep between 60-67.

Who are you going to trust? "Experts", or the government who always has your best interest in mind?

If you told me that I have the choice between not sleeping at night at all and paying $3 to sleep through the night, I would be happy to hand you my $3.

If the goal is to keep costs down, then just shut it off and welcome the sweet release of a heat stroke...

I don’t even want my house to be 82 degrees when I’m gone on vacation. Needs to be 70 or below at night or I’m not getting any sleep.

I'll pay $400-500 electric bills before I'm hot in my own house.

My father in law must have read this back in 1998. It was miserable to be anywhere in their house with those settings. I am not cheap when it comes to things like A/C and food. No kid should grow up sweating at night unless the A/C is broken. Ridiculous.

ConsumerReports.org recommends you keep your AC on the following settings:

85° F when you’re at work or away
82° F when you’re sleeping

$100 says the CEO of consumerreports.org does not do this.

Consumer Reports is trying to sell more mattresses. We will all have sweat stains on them, at 82 degrees.
