Debate settled. It’s best to keep your AC on 82° F while sleeping.

According to ConsumerReports.org, there are certain temperatures you can keep your unit at to keep costs down.

Energy Star, a joint federal program run by the DOE and the EPA, recommends you keep your house at 78° F while you're at home and awake.

ConsumerReports.org recommends you keep your AC on the following settings:

78° F when you’re home
85° F when you’re at work or away
82° F when you’re sleeping

If keeping my AC at 72 during the day and 70 while I sleep speeds up the destruction of the environment then so be it. It’s been a good ride.

82 degrees F is scorching. The South Louisiana Coonass requires a minimum low of 68 degrees to sleep.

Yeah I heard that. But what's the basis for this number? What does the EPA know about best sleep practices?

Those few, fleeting minutes the thermostat reads 75 when you walk into your home after being gone all day is hell.

Reminds me of the movie "Daddy's Home 2" when the girl kept setting the thermostat to that and all the men went into freakout mode!

Those people must have never slept in a 100 year old house in the Summer in Louisiana. The humidity would drive you crazy

65 upstairs where all the bedrooms are

72 downstairs when we go to bed.

The whole house stays on 75 while we’re not home
