Yeah I heard that. But what's the basis for this number? What does the EPA know about best sleep practices?

Energy efficiency based off the article. If you're going to have it on 82 you might as well have it off most of the time. I don't know anyone under 80 years old that would be comfortable in that.

Those people must have never slept in a 100 year old house in the Summer in Louisiana. The humidity would drive you crazy

Yeah, I bet no one has slept in that house without A/C.

Just curious to understand if it's the temp or the humidity that is the issue. I can go to San Diego, and the temp can be 78 degrees and it feels wonderful. But, it's more or less, even by the ocean, a very dry air with ocean breeze, so I'm wondering if anyone has a home where they use a dehumidifier all the time and if the higher AC Temps feel fine with the dry air and fans running to move the air around?

if they even considered those living in high humidity parts of the country.

i run the a/c based on humidity not temperature. Even if it’s 60 outside i’ll run it if the air is wet.

What is the point in even having AC if you are going to do that nonsense

That would actually be a horrible recommendation for climates in the South that have high humidity. You only dehumidify the air when the compressor is running. so having you unit run less will cause your humidity levels to rise greatly. humid air feels warmer then dry air at the same temperature. you also put yourself at risk for mold and mildew in the house.

So now you will need to buy and run humidifiers continually, which in them selves will use more energy.

Exactly. Controlling the humidity inside the house is key

I like having the Nest as I can check both thermostats at anytime and look at what the humidity is inside the house.
