Yeah except the flu only kills about 0.13 percent of people it infects. This kills bout 4 percent.

I haven't read this entire thread, but did anyone read the number that an estimated 5 million people left the Wuhan area before travel out was cut off?

Yeah and whoever posted the numbers of where they went. Majority staying within mainland, but thousands went to places like HK, SG, US, Europe

We really don't know what the mortality rate is for this yet, and it can change with time. If the number of cases is much higher than reported (also consider that mortality will lag infection rate) then it might be on par with the flu.
Because we don't know the extent to which Chinese authorities might be restricting information, people and institutions have to guess.

True mortality rate is determined after the event is over. up till then, it's a retroactive approximation. Especially with the long gestation period (10-12 days) and the apparent early (asymptomatic) ability to pass the virus.
you can have 2-3 generations of virus before a patient gets sick/dies.

this. this is your biggest concern?
people getting their feelings hurt because other folks are cautious of potentially catching a life threatening flue strain.
