Button down and slacks ; I keep a sport coat in my office for if I’m dragged into a meeting with the bosses

90s way over, jeans and a button up or even a polo. WFA the way to go though.

Suit every day when I worked at an accounting firm and a bank. Current company used to be a suit every day but that ended a long time ago.
What really bothers me is the C-suite folks who run the company changed to wearing business casual in a concerted move a few years ago. It’s like they don’t want to be seen as being any different than everyone else or they don’t want to be seen as leaders who should be held accountable but they still want the big bucks. They are different and should dress like it.
I’ve noticed more and more baseball caps on guys in the office. I don’t think that’s appropriate for a white collar office job but when the company leaders dress like they’re going out to eat at Chili’s, you open the door to that kind of stuff.

Long-sleeved button down & slacks every day.
Sport coat on top of that 5-10 times per year.
My belt & shoe game is legit.
Even if I live to age 110, I will die with too many of both of those items.
I can’t wear them out fast enough.

Before Covid we had pretty much already switched to business casual.
Covid knocked it down to polos and basically golf clothes and that has stuck.
Coats and ties never worn unless there’s a reason.

Jeans and a golf shirt baw. They can suck it from behind if they think I'm doing more than that.

I didn't wear a coat and tie when I was in the active practice of law unless I was in court. I typically wore a tie to depositions, but not always.

I get a little annoyed when I get dressed for court and know the judge is likely wearing a tshirt and shorts under their robe.

One of the FEW remaining perks in my office is that they are not strict at all with the dress code.
Khakis and then either a t shirt, sweat shirt, or sweater.

Gave that up in ‘92. Only if I am going to court.

I know of one person who wears a tie and sometimes a coat to work. He works for a bank and often meets with people, companies who are looking for big loans. I am sure there is a better way to phrase that and there might even be a name for the type of loans he provides, but its one of not many jobs where coats and ties are worn and I don't think its every day. I guess only when he has to meet with people.
Its more common, I guess, in the financial sector, but I had to go sign some paper work a few months ago and the guy who is... I think a financial agent. Investments.. He had one a tie, no coat.

My dad still wears a button down and tie every day to work. If you read this dad I'm here to defend you

When I worked offshore the COO came to the rig in basic casual clothes with a popped collar. He was trying to fit in, but the image he portrayed to people freaked out about the company future was different. The discussion we had was god I hope he is not dressing or acting like this with current clients/potential clients or we are doomed.
Another company I worked for was NYC based and opened a satellite office in NOLA. They sent an NYC office guy to get it going and hired experienced NOLA people in the industry. The standard in the NYC office is suit and tie all day every day. I trained up there and man its stuffy. NYC guy tells the NOLA guys suit and tie all day everyday. It was a long summer and the NOLA guys were suffering but putting up with it, but the NYC guy wanted to kill himself. NYC guy turned it over to the head NOLA guy and went back to NYC. Next day NOLA guy tells the office no more suit and ties for daily duties, but wear it at all times when entertaining or meeting a client. That made sense.

We are require every day of the week, even Fridays. I don’t mind it, but it would be nice to be a bit more casual on Fridays if we aren’t seeing clients or going to court. I will say, it is alarming the amount of lawyer who dress like schlubs for depositions.

Coat and tie? What is this, Enterprise Rent a Car?
Most high finance and/or corporate law firms expect it. Maybe not on Friday. But that’s it.
