I cant go back to public courses It’s crowded, the grass has big brown patches in it, they don’t rake the sand traps. Not to mention the caliber of people you have to play with!

If the clubhouse was a library, all of the local blue hairs would make a human chain around the property to save it. Good luck.

Dixon McMakin’s plan actually makes the most sense and saves golf.

They already have their mind made up. It’s a pointless fight. They want “a natural environment”, meaning there will be walking paths and overgrown shrubs and weeds.

They won’t listen to anyone there. It’s just for show to have you think you have a say.

Best part was they already have “botanical gardens” and a cafe at Independence Park and don’t maintain it.

Santa Maria has a bar/restaurant they don’t run. If it was run and operates properly it would make a killing from people in the neighborhood.

BREC has parks all over the parish that they don’t maintain very well.

They just closed Howell Park and Dumas anc now they want to close City,

Why not improve the parks they have instead of repurposing one because a loud group wants it in their neighborhood.

Fix up Highland, Burbank, Fairgrounds, Independence, Howell, Antioch, and all the others. Fix up City too, but keep the golf. McMakin is on the right track.

Don’t do that, but I really don’t gaf about this golf course. I actually cared more before so many local assholes came out with their goddamn yard signs and all. Imagine if the same people cared as much about schools and crime and stuff. God.

Interesting that the people leading the charge to change the golf course, and ruin it for so many groups, don't really know squat about golf.

One is a runner who has no clue, another talks more than a battery powered Christmas toy and the BREC chair of this effort thinks St. Andrews is a church in Geismar.

No respect for the historical significance of City Park and the multitude of people who have long standing ties to the course.

They should be ashamed of themselves.

A running track is extremely stupid. The whole neighborhood around the lakes is a jogging area.

They need to separate the City and the Brooks areas into two separate parks.

quote:

Edgar Cage said more attention needs to be paid to the Brooks pool, which opened in 1949 after Willie Brooks and the United Negro Recreation Association raised the money for it. At that time, the public pool at City Park was segregated.

“The pool was more than a recreation facility. It was a center for community life,” Cage said.

Now, it’s a disappointment.

“This pool was given to BREC and the city. Nothing has been done. And, you know, looking around, I hate to say this but it hurts my heart. BREC has put more into the dog park and the dog owners than Brooks pool for Black children and their Black parents. And I think that’s a travesty. That’s a travesty. It needs to be corrected,” Cage said.

The BREC is one of the most corrupt organizations in all of BR.
