Please elaborate. Make sure you compare said "predatory nature" to other large infrastructure projects among other industries.

You can do the same with the "predatory nature" of who will control the data compared with who "controls" the products of other large infrastructure projects.

ETA: You equating AI and data center infrastructure existing only to bolster the surveillance state is like saying we need to stop producing cars and car factories because police use them to conduct illegal search and seizures.

Flock and systems like it are a major issue. And they are a drop of a drop in the bucket of what data centers and AI as a whole are used for now, and will be in the future.

Are you equating the power of AI and data centers with that of a state highway? Seriously?

But you cannot, unless of course you admit AI wont be that powerful.

Ive never seen anyone promise to cure cancer and all cancers building a major state highway. No one building a state highway is going to be processing every piece of data from my private activities. "Oh you can opt out!" No, the whole POINT of these projects is so you cannot even function at all without opting in. Its a false choice. You will have no choice to opt out.

The same tech tycoons trying to shove these data centers in are the same ones laying off American workers and hiring H1B workers from India en masse.

I would assume they are doing the same with our elections when you see these polls or polymarket results.

Where did I say state highways.

Think oil and gas. But you knew that, hence why you inserted the straw man.

Source? And stop with the highway bullshite. It's a stupid and irrelevant comparison and you know it. We're talking private industry.

Again you show your ignorance of data centers and what they process. And what the frick do H1B visas have to do with data center infrastructure?

Put down the tiktok paw paw. Not that you'll see the irony in that.

I like how they’re trying to gas light us into being pro-data centers. I’m not for or against - I just want communities to have a say in whether or not data centers should be built within them (just like Flock cameras). Screw them for trying to do the same thing they claim China is doing.

Which of these two options seems more likely to be true:

1) X is making all of this up because they need and want data centers for their operations

2) China is actually doing shady shite that's completely in line with countiess other examples of things they've done to destabilize and influence our populace?

They both seem very likely to be true.

Corporations with heavy investments in AI are obviously aware of how little normal people like AI and need/want to influence that sentiment.

China also very obviously has financial interest in the own AI and would like to see the US and others fall behind.

You think it is beyond corporations and our government to take a threat and hyperbolize it to drive fear and influence in order to achieve a goal? Because that would be an interesting take that I doubt many in this thread would have in other situations.

Republicans are searching for a reason to be pro data centers. It's interesting to watch.

It was crazy hearing Kennedy on Theo Vonn's podcast talk about data centers like he was a robot reading a script. It was the most buttoned up, rehearsed talking point I think I've ever heard him give.

It's china's fault tech companies want to put their data centers near urban and suburban communities? China has that much influence with Bezos, Musk, meta, etc...? That's concerning.

Conflating anti-data center sentiment with anti-tech is just bad faith.

Do you want Mark Zuckerberg to have even more power over your life?

So assuming what you're saying is true or will happen...what would you have done? Outlaw AI? Let whomever else that can advance it to do so and reap any benefits while we lag behind?

Also, ask yourself, why would China try to generate opposition in the US if they didn't stand to benefit from us not pursing AI?

Non-educated anti-data center extremists are believing in things that are simply not accurate.

This issue is larger than data centers. 95% of people just believe what the next person tells them. It doesn't matter if its face to face or online. People are becoming less skeptical and more susceptible to fallacies and fake information because they either don't know how to form their own opinions or just too lazy to.

I'd say a lot of countries are using social media to manipulate opinions on many things.

Bold take, I know.

So only tech companies want to build large projects near urban and suburban communities?

Which companies are ok doing this? Which ones aren't? What is the discerning criteria for this decision?

Why would X want this to end? Musk is talking about putting data centers in space. It's better for him if there are fewer in the USA.

Seriously, some of you don't know how to think 2 steps down a logical path, and it shows.

Both can be true. The issue with data centers is not China, it's anti-human tech nutjobs trying to find another region of America to rape and pillage.

This doesn't describe Elon Musk. His goal is to out data centers in space.

Let's follow this logical trail.

1. Grok is competing with Copilot, chatGPT, etc
2. Grok uses data centers in space
3. All other AI modules are forced to use Chinese data centers because there aren't enough in the USA.

Who wins here? Elon Musk, or the rest? Which platform becomes more trusted? The one with the data in space, or the ones with the data in China?

Yep. Just like all the propaganda against EVs and renewables. Two relatively new industries and china is trying to kneecap their only credible competitor (USA).

a bot farm spreading negative bot farm influence in order to influence their own bot farm agenda. Sounds like the left.
