Definitely don’t blame China & consider why they’re doing it
It absolutely makes sense that China would want to spread anti data center propaganda in order to give themselves an advantage in the AI race. That doesnt mean that the concerns some folks have over data centers arent valid.
When discussing AI data centers in particular, the threat from AI more broadly has no borders. Sometime between today and few decades from now we are on course to develop an alien super intelligence and these data centers will be its nervous system. It does not matter if the Chinese or the US develops it first. Humanity may not survive.

they probably make a killing on Reddit.

Yes, there is.
There's clear video evidence of the hum all across the internet posted by reputable, verified sources.
If the hum doesn't bother you that's one thing. But there is noise pollution associated with data centers.

No, there's not. I have been near one. In person. Not "clear video evidence". Me. Standing there.

There was no hum. When I was standing right there. In person.

There is noise pollution associated with refineries, factories, and every other type of production facility all across the country.
"But what about when those backup generators are tested!!!!"
You know what else has backup generators that are tested on a regular basis? Refineries, factories, and every other type of production facility all accross the country. And on top of that, hospitals, office buildings, etc.

I mean that’s likely tbh. Big Data Center knows that if they can make their existence political at least 1/2 of the country will support them.

China is taking are freedoms to build data centers

How do we know that this “find” is not just another attempt to manipulate us into believing that we’re being manipulated?

I don't need Chinese bots to tell me why I don't like data centers. What do they do for locals? Once they're built (by outside construction firms) they don't employ many and they suck up local resources, water and electric. Locals get nothing out of them.
What exactly are their purpose anyways? Store more of my private data? Flock camera data storage to surveil the population? AI that takes my job?
Explain to me how data centers benefit me.

And we all know how impartial X would be on the subject of data centers.
Data centers use 6% of the water consumption of a golf course. How many of you wouldn't be bitching about a golf course in rural Louisiana but are bitching about a meta facility?
I understand being cautious, but the water thing is overblown.

How does a golf course benefit you? See reasoning in post above.

I play golf. What benefits do I get from a data center?

Republicans are searching for a reason to be pro data centers. It's interesting to watch.
They are objectively a great thing. They are the engine that powers our economy already and that will only become more true in the future.
Have competent local and state leadership that gets you a good deal on the construction of it. They bring power, closed loop water, have noise restrictions.
Zero issue with them whatsoever, We should be building more of them. A LOT more.

Apparently quite a few since you've been on this site for over a decade with over 10k posts

You quoted this as a reply to me. I never mentioned that.
I have no agenda here with data centers other than industrial noise is bad (empirically) and should be kept away from areas where humans reside.

Many here are not old enough to remember how the Soviets influenced and even bankrolled anti-nuke movements in the 60 up to the end of the Cold War.

Meanwhile China is upping their compute and power generation capabilities at an insane rate.
They have been adding the equivalent of Germany's entire power grid to their power generation capabilities every year for a few years now.

The irony is this is the narrative the Chinese bots are pushing. Looks like they’re more effective on you than you give them credit for.

I can walk it for exercise, I can play it, I can even fish the ponds on it.
Physical rewards.
