So if you personally don't benefit, then you don't want it? It uses more resources than a data center. Is this your opinion of Space X in VP, or any one of the multitude of plants or adjacent industries?
I'm not 100% sold on data centers, but to pretend they are this great chasm on the land is not being genuine. Solar panels and wind turbines are more damaging, long term, to our countryside than a data center. (not that you are arguing for that)
FWIW, i fell for the "but what about all the water it needs" too, but once i learned they use a fraction of the water that the alarmists called for, i have my doubts about the other "terrors" of data centers that some people are calling out.

It’s coal. The overwhelming majority of new electricity generated in China is coal.

I never said I don’t want data centers. I want data centers, but I want data centers to use surface waters, not aquifers, and I want data centers to either generate their own electricity or pay producers market rates to expand capacity.
I’m also still very skeptical of just how these hundreds of billions of dollars of capital investment will ever be paid off and think we are witnessing a bubble the likes we haven’t seen since the tulip crisis in the Netherlands.

I think a lot of the funding is speculation without anything actionable. The $50B meta center in Frankland parish, i have my doubts if it does come to fruition, it will amount to that price tag. But i am willing to concede i could be very wrong about this too.

Most centers don’t even use evaporative cooling any longer, but are moving to direct contact cooling of the chips with glycol or non-conductive coolants.
However, their hydrostatic/pressure tests of all the piping will consume a very large amount of water up front, and because they need to flush and fill numerous times it can’t be ignored outright.
But I agree, the water demand isn’t as dyer as initially made out to be.
