It’s a huge victory they’ll have a relatively unscathed Kingston to run recovery operations out of. Not having a place to stage out of makes everything that much harder.

I can't remember ever seeing a hurricane with such compact and intense rotation and such a clean eye. It's absolutely beautiful and terrifying.

God help those people. Even if it missed Kingston and the peak winds are only 10-15 miles wide, they're still gonna get rocked and have a rain/surge/mudslide nightmare on their hands.

Still can't believe it continues to strengthen. She's a beast

Last drop appears to confirm 893 or even support 892.

Kingston not going to be flooded from storm surge? Seems like that Bay would trap a lot of water getting pushed in.

Kingston will get some surge but you still need the hurricane force wind in place to push a catastrophic storm surge. Being a compact and max intensity storm will limit max surge width as well.

Was just coming to mention that.

Would make it the third (i think) strongest in record in the Atlantic, and right before landfall

The long duration strengthening and max intensity longevity is what’s striking. Keep waiting to see the eye collapse and cycle, but it just keeps looking better than it did before.

How long does it take to get from one side to the other

And do most people have ability to do so?

I have zero idea about Jamaica.

Also: are they a corrupt government or will they really help their people??

Based on my experience watching the Olympics there’s no nation of people better suited to outrun something.

Hopefully the wind field stays compact, I’m sure all that rain is going to cause issues all over the island though.
