Melissa. Remain in place through the passage of these life-
threatening conditions.

An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft has found that
Melissa is strengthening with maximum sustained winds of 180 mph
(290 km/h). Estimated minimum central pressure based on aircraft
data has fallen to 896 mb (26.47 inches).

Another position update will be provided at 1000 AM EDT (1400 UTC).

I know Jeff has done this many times, but man he is going to be in the eye wall of 180 mph in a few hours. If his equipment holds up, he's going to have some great video.

The extreme winds are in a very narrow band. Even the hurricane force wind field isn’t very wide. Hopefully they were smart enough to move people east.

Yeah, this is a very compact system and Hurricane force winds will be confined to a small area.

everyone says "small victory" and it is kind of trite most times - but in this instance, it has a lot of truth to it - the fact the bad winds are that compact is a small victory.
