Buddy of mine made a $1200 unsolicited donation yesterday to some doctors and engineers

He was driving in downtown Atlanta for whatever reason and got approached by the infamous water boys (ATL baws know exactly what I'm talking about). He had just gotten promoted as well as received his annual commission check, and was feeling unusually generous, so he decided to show a little kindness by engaging with one of them and buying a warm, likely stolen Powerade.
The young astute salesman requested Cashapp as the medium for the transaction. My buddy pulls out his phone and enters his PIN to authorize it. As he enters it, the young engineer swipes the phone out of his hand and takes off running. My friend was behind a few cars at a red light, so he was unable to give chase.
It turns out that the fella saw the PIN my friend entered and was able to replicate it, and drained all of the cash in his checking account to the tune of $1200. I had my friend's location, and we were able to recover his phone a couple of blocks away. To add insult to injury, the young engineer decided to smash it onto the ground after completing the transactions, so the screen was shattered.
He's currently working with Cashapp and his bank to try to recover the stolen funds, but we told him that he's likely screwed. APD gave him the runaround when he tried to submit a police report, so he gave up on that front. They don't give a flying frick.
I told him that I guess he learned his lesson the hard way - you can't show certain types of people an ounce of kindness. You sadly just have to avoid and ignore them.

Yea, you just need to avoid those people. Trying to be a nice person is not worth the risk. Nowadays, minor crime events like this are filed online through the police website. I feel like it wouldn't be difficult to get cashapp to refund this money, might have to pester them a little more.

First, I'm never buying water from them. Second, if I did, it would be a strictly cash transaction.

I don't donate to anything other than St. Jude Children's Hospital and my church, and that's done through auto draft each month.
Feed the kids? Bitch, I have my own kids and they're hungry too.
Help the local food bank? frick that, I pay taxes that fund other programs to help the poor.
If I ever win the lottery, I'm traveling the country's grocery stores to find single parents who keep telling their kids "no" to requests for this or that because they can't afford it. I'm putting it in my basket and following them to the checkout line. That's the best way to truly do good in this world without fear of having your donation(s) misappropriated.
