NO. What stupid thing to say. I always gave way as much as possible to traffic, and wasn't an arrogant Ahole.
ETA: and I never did stupid chit like ride on major heavy traffic road like Perkins where that guy was killed about 5 years ago.

what does any of that have to do with the Trace?
I was responding to a douchy comment about bikers being pricks because they think they own the road. The point is that it is a problem in the other direction as well. I’m not sure about Baton Rouge but in most places the pedestrian has the right of way if using a crosswalk. Here is the New Orleans statute for example:
quote:
Sec. 154-1602. - Right-of-way in crosswalk. (a) When traffic control signals are not in place or not in operation, the driver of a vehicle shall stop and yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk when the pedestrian is upon the roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling or the roadway onto which the vehicle is turning. (b) No pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close that it is impossible for the driver to yield. (c) Whenever any vehicle is stopped at a marked crosswalk or at any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection to permit a pedestrian to cross the roadway, the driver of any other vehicle approaching from the rear shall not overtake and pass such stopped vehicle.
NOLA Municipal Code

Police believe the incident is not random. That is, they may have known each other? Maybe the incident is not what all the speculation is about.
quote:
"The incident is still under investigation, but it is not believed to be random," the press release said, encouraging people with any information about the incident to contact the Sheriff's Office.

No mention of the shooter either being at large or having been arrested, which leads me to think the cops have probably interviewed the shooter already and there’s a possible self defense angle to it.

frick these cyclists. It should be illegal to ride a bicycle on a highway. Quit pretending to be in the Tour De France just to hold up traffic. Go ride on some secluded bike trail or a residential neighborhood.

Boy are you going to be upset when you find out what the Tammany Trace is

I don’t think of ppl riding a bicycle as a biker. They are cyclists.
Bikers are guys zipping around on crotch rockets being an arse and risking there lives cutting and zipping around in traffic or assholes on cruisers taking up all lanes and stretching like a snake not allowing you to pass and get in their formation.

I hate to pre judge but this guy sounds like a douche.
If a guy in a car gets out with a gun to confront a guy on his bike, he actually sounds like the hothead douche.

Normally I would agree with you. But Tammany Trace? I feel like the biker gave him a good reason.

Are bicyclists pedestrians? Sounds like (b) puts it in the pedestrian to yield ie "look both ways before crossing" which isn't done today. And yes many bicyclists are pricks. Just like like the people who purposely walk slowly across the street.

I’ve yet to meet a guy on a bike who carries a gun.
That is irrelevant. You dont have to be facing a person with a gun to justify self defense.
If Mike Tyson was getting ready to attack me w/out a gun, I'm still in danger and could use whatever means of self defense I felt necessary.

It’s a DEDICATED BIKE TRAIL

Need to know if the biker was wearing a Lance Armstrong outfit before I pass judgement.

I mean, was this just a guy riding a bike for exercise? Or like one of these cretins you see riding along Airline in BR/AP ?

I’ve seen it both ways
We have this kind of a situation near where I live. Due to bad planning, one intersection is well known for U Turns, and the city embraced it. There are signs everywhere saying "Right Turn on Red Yield to U Turn" yet I almost get into an accident twice a week because people try to turn on red while I have the green and legal right to U Turn. Not my proudest moment, but especially if it's only me in the car I yell at them because they will kill someone. The amount of people that also yell at me when they are damn well in the wrong is just insane.

I ride 3000+ miles a year, some on the Trace, and I see cyclists DARING cars to hit them with their behavior. People have forgotten that a 5000 pound car WILL win if they hit you.
Regardless of law, when I am riding, a car ALWAYS has the right of way. ALWAYS. I am getting the hell out the way if a car wants to pass/ get by. Its stupid to do otherwise.
And there are some intersections on the trace that the trace traffic has the right of way and the cars have to yield. One of them is where the trace crosses the road going into Fountainbleau State Park.
I dont ride a two wheel bike anymore, But I admit some of the Tour De France guys/women are the biggest douchebags on earth., They all training for the Tour and we need to yield, dammit.
And...for the record..some of us DO carry while riding.

This is a dedicated bike trail where NO CARS ARE ALLOWED
There are a few spots where the trail crosses roads and it’s very clear to yield to bikes with flashing signs telling cars so
Without anymore details trying to put this on the biker makes no sense

I wonder if the dispute started off the trail.
I see the Tour-de-Tards on 59 and 36 and nearby streets on a regular basis.
