Baw on flight refused to lift carry-on into overhead storage for woman

A woman, probably in her 50s-60s, was struggling to get her carry-on suitcase into the overhead luggage
She turned to the 60-70 year old guy behind her and asked for help
He said no, citing that he doesn't want to risk hurting his back. He seemed to be in shape.
Someone else ends up helping her out.
At first I'm thinking this was a dick move, but then I realize he has a point.

People should help others when they can, but Jesus, people need to stop traveling with carryons they can’t actually handle as a carry on. If you can’t handle the bag, pay the fee and check it, bringing a smaller personal item for anything you immediately need.

I’ve definitely noticed this attitude that folks don’t need to think about the details because they’ll just “work out” (often to the inconvenience of people who decide not to complain) or they’ll blame anything they can because anyone pushes back and decides to complain or it’s even against policy.
And it’s often older folks who hold it.

This!! And not just bags that are too heavy. Bags that are obviously too big to go in the overhead bins on the small regional jets. Valet it plane side at no charge. Instead, these idiots block the aisle for everyone else while they keep trying to cram it in.

A friend of mine was sitting in his aisle seat and the lady behind him was putting her bag up above his seat when she dropped it on his head. It hurt his neck just a bit and was sore for a week. The airline company was proactive and offered him some coin. He talked to his lawyer and the lawyer handled it for him. He got paid a nice sum but I can’t remember what it was.

My favorite is getting to my seat and finding MY overhead bin spot packed with shite belonging to people sitting elsewhere. I just pull it out, put it on the floor of the aisle, and put my shite in its proper place.
