Downvoting it is silly, but I don’t travel that way. I have a carry on a few inches smaller than the “max” and an underseat. Both are stowed in less ten seconds with no trouble. I don’t have an issue with carryons; I have an issue with carryons that are either too big for the plane or too heavy for someone to handle. Just check it.

I have a disability plate and need it. But, I am a sucker who will always help out a woman, any age or race. The problem is my wife, if she is with me, she jumps up, tells me to sit before I hurt myself, then she will help the lady, proclaiming "I work out".

I have been in great shape and would have helped for most of my adult life. However, I did have some injuries years ago which would have prevented assisting someone in that situation. Particularly over head.
Just because an injury or weakness is not obvious does not prove that it does not exist.
Besides, nobody owes anyone else assistance.
Where did this sense of entitlement originate?

When my now-wife and I started traveling extensively together, I made the rule that she was not allowed to pack any bag that she wasn’t willing and able to pick up and carry while trotting up a set of subway steps. Doesn’t mean I’m actually going to make her do that, but in an emergency, she needs to be able to.

She was super fricking annoyed about it at first, but after a couple of trips, she became a vastly more competent, and confident, traveler. She knows she can handle things herself if she needs to, and that makes all the difference.

I have another "rule" that basically falls in the same category, "Always wear shoes you can run and fight in..."

It's like the folks I see on planes in flip flop or crocs. What are you going to do if the plane goes down and you have to crawl of twisted metal?

Ive seen a woman get booted from the exit row seat next to me because she asked me for help putting her bags in the overhead.

They said if she needs help with her bags she cant sit in the exit row.

I was like:

OMG could have been me

Funny how women want equal treatment until it inconveniences them.

That aside, if i'm in my 60s or 70s, i'm probably not going to help someone younger than me.
