I agree with you here. My dad did the firefighter training and the airplane escape section he said you have like 90 seconds to get out. I make note of the exit row if it's forward or back. Have a shoe and usually long pants.
And a soft sided carry-on should be required so it can mash into the wedge shape of the back of the bin.

This is why boarding makes sense. I'll help anytime I see someone in need but the airline should be doing it not passengers.
Anyone needing special assistance, anyone who doesn't understand the boarding process, anyone who struggles to just function in a fast paced social environment, get on the plane first, sit down and get out of the way.
People get so damn butt-hurt watching someone get on the plane before them like 9 year olds who can't stop running on a pool deck it's taken the intention / role of pre-boarding and made people think it's just for those who are handicapped and people who should use it, don't.

Why? As long as it fits, why should a woman be forced to comply with a weight limit? What if someone had shoulder surgery and just can’t manage to lift above her head?
A passenger who is weak has every reason to expect aid from her fellow man, and she gets it in every case like that I’ve ever seen on an airplane. And most came from folks offering without being asked.

You mean the FAs that don't get paid until the door closes? The largely female and gay FAs that typically haven't seen the inside of a gym for years? Why are they responsible for shite you can't lift to shoulder height, especially when they're not getting paid for it?

This is the correct answer.
I don't have a problem helping people out, because I can. But a traveler should not assume that there will always be some stranger available to assist them.

In both cases, they should check the bag and bring something they can lift in the former case or fit under their seat in the latter.

Again, people should help others anytime they can. I help people on planes quite frequently. With that said, a full sized carry-on bag is a convenience, not a necessity. If someone moves through life with the expectation that other people will help them with their every convenience, it’s my opinion that they should rethink how they move through life.

Many European and a few domestic carriers do have a weight limit on carry-on bags. It's about 16 kilos or 35 lbs. Most domestic carriers, AA, Delta, United and Southwest) have no weight restrictions. The only weight restriction is, pay close attention, that you only need to be able to lift the bag into the overhead bin by yourself.

You are correct, because I don't fly anymore. I used to do it when I flew 6-8 times per month. When TSA became staffed with people that were power hungry, angry, and a few were borderline downs at the same time, I restructured my travel needs.

After I had tricep tendon reconstruction last year, I had to turn down several people who needed help either lifting stuff, moving things, etc. I felt bad, but I physically couldn’t do it. It sucks, but it is what it is.

I stopped helping most younger to middle-aged women after all the viral videos of them snapping at men that they can do it and don't need a man's help, and all the comments on the videos from other women echoing the same sentiment.
If I see a kid or an older person or someone looking around for help, I'll definitely jump in though.
