Just a yes or no answer is great.

When my barber charged me $20, the tip was $5

When he went to $25 2-3 years ago, the tip was $5

If/when he goes to $30, the tip will still be $5

This...I'll happily continue tipping based on great service all day everyday. I understand his total cost to do business increases just like most businesses.

Exactly. It pisses you off just a little bit though to where it makes you not want to.

I think it's a requirement for an attorney to pay $100 for a haircut. It's part of the douchebag mentality. Your opinion is irrelevant in this thread. Go chase an ambulance.

I pay $60, which includes the tip. I'm also not a litigator.
I also think it's funny that you're calling others a douchebag, which you're a cheapskate and denigrating a person's profession simply because they don't need a college degree to be a member of that profession.

Well I qualified it because absolutes aren’t good positions because if he went to high Id “probably”find a new barber.

I love how you say you could afford to go everyday but this 5 dollars is such a sticking point to you. You ever think how the barber feels about prices. You really think he’s out there trying to gouge you. If yes.. why go to him? And You never answered when his last increase was?

If it weren’t for all of those fat cat greedy barbers out their living in their huge mansions and driving fancy sports cars we could all be rich.

Weird subject for me lately regarding tipping your hair cut.

If the person owns their own shop and isn't an employee, I don't think you should tip. They should charge what they want to receive

I say this as I tip my girl who doesn't kick up to anyone

"When inflation is over, prices don't just start going down. That's called deflation, qnd can be dangerous as well. Inflation should always be there, just at a DRAMATICALLY reduced rate than it has been.

Do you get raises periodically at work? These folks can’t charge what they did in 2005. Pay the extra $2.00 and STFU

Just not a huge fan of the playing into service industry folks giving themselves a raise and crying "inflation" as their reasoning and then never decreasing their prices when "inflation" is over.

You have a fundamental lack of knowledge related to economics and historic economic data.

The Consumer Price Index tracks inflation in the US. In the past 60+ years, the CPI has indicated deflation one time. (2009 -0.4%).

You not being aware that inflation has had a ubiquitous presence in our economy for our entire life indicates you should shut up, stop attempting to "think", and pay your barber his requested rate.

OP sounds like a DB. Love people who know nothing about running a business, but complain.

Buy a pair of clippers for $30 and do it yourself.

Just like everything else prices are going up because they know people will pay it.

Most barbers/stylists who don't own their own shops are still self-employed and aren't really considered "employees". Most rent their booths from the shop/salon, buy their own supplies, keep their own licenses and such, and set their own prices. It is a more convenient arrangement for most to rent their booth space from a building owner. Very few, if any, barbers/stylists are getting paid hourly wages.

Barbers shouldn’t get COLA?

I pay a flat rate for a haircut. That used to include a good tip. Now it includes a smaller tip.

It would be one thing if the guy didn’t own his own barber shop. The tip was always just extra. It’s not like a waitress living off of tips.

Invest in some good clippers and watch YouTube videos to learn how to cut it yourself. I learned how to give myself a bald fade and no longer have to pay $30-40 every two weeks. Also, you can give yourself a fresh cut whenever you want and not be tied to appointment availability.

Your hair probably looks like crap. Also, you shouldn't have to get your hair cut every two weeks.

As does anyone who is self-employed. I’ve never tipped a barber in my life. The only time I would it would be at a chain like Super Cuts where they don’t own and operate their own shop. Build what you want to charge me for a haircut into the price if you’re the one setting it.
