My Barber use to charge $15, I gave her a $20 and told her to keep the change. Then she went to $18 and I gave her a $20 and told her to keep the change. Now she's at $20 and and I give $20 and she has no change to keep.

She gets to keep a cheapskate as a client. Lucky her.

The price went up $5. So if you cut an average of 15 people's hair per day for 250 working days out of the year you give yourself roughly a $15,000-19,000 raise for that year. Inflation is real but it doesn't call for that shite.

Wow. Just wow.

Now track her costs/expenses and do the same math.

A lot on this board are. It's odd to feel that way. Being cheap is not a virtue.

The price of gas and food goes down as inflation slows along with the price of materials to do business like the supplies a barber or anyone else in the service industry would use. When this happens, the price for their services should follow accordingly, but it never does.

If they own the business this easily gets eaten up by insurance/rent, processing fees, taxes and input goods.

Sometimes I will choose to lessen the tip due to an increase in price, just depends. When a business starts adding fees to the price, the tip definitely lessens. You can argue that it's not the employee's fault, but it's not my fault either. There's only so much I'm going to pay for something.

I bet in your industry you increase prices all the time, but have the audacity to expect everyone else in every other industry to keep prices flat forever.
