re: Austin added 500k, NOLA lost 75k+ residents

IIRC, Austin wasn't much larger than BR in 1980. But hey, we liked having a governor who made us laugh.

I love both cities and they both have their perks and they have a lot in common, but here’s why someone may rather live in Austin than New Orleans:

Low crime, lots of jobs, good schools, no mosquitoes, low relative humidity.

I moved back from S W Fla., to be close to family, otherwise I would never move here

In Louisiana it’s easy not to be affected by crime if you don’t get involved with it. In Texas you will get your wheels stolen off your car at least twice in your life

I lived in ATX from 2011-14 and the traffic was at least as bad as BR, albeit with less goofball drivers. Took 45 mins easy to get from the domain to Spider House and rents if you wanted to live anywhere between Ben White and MoPac were more then than they are in BR/Nola even now.

Lafayette can’t hold a candle to New Orleans. There’s more to do in one small section of New Orleans than all of Lafayette combined. I can find a greater number of better restaurants and bars in a square mile of New Orleans than the all of Acadian country. It’s not even close.

I'd like to see the numbers on federal monies for each city. I'd bet that Austin gives more than it receives by a large margin.

NOLA on the other hand is a welfare city. It is a drag on the country.

I love Austin. Prior to meeting my wife and settling down I was starting to plan out moving there. It's fun, 'keep everything local', and liberal vibe has always been appealing to me.

I have some family there that hate all of the changes to the culture with the transplants.
