He’s lucky not have been impaled by a tree limb.
The clam shell driveways and parking lots with the white dust covering the cars seemed to be a feature of casual seafood restaurants back then. Along with piers and large gauge rope marking off the walkways and property, that was a staple into the 80’s.

They really should just name this drink "The Shaker". Throw a wagyu bone to the OT.

Cue the Obi Wan gif, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time.

Somewhere in an office off West Lakeshore, an email has just gone out requesting those post card intervals be changed to every 3 weeks.

I think we all watched enough cartoons growing to know exactly what happened: man comes in contact with some industrial waste or secret material, transforms into a monster living in water, travels the drainage system, then when killed, he reverts to his normal self, even wearing his glasses again.

I wouldn’t worry about the neighbors and their golf carts. They probably get two first class upgrades and don’t leave their wife in coach.

re: Importing toyota hilux

Go watch videos where US customs smashes incorrectly imported vehicles then get back to us. For a while they rounded up Land Rover Defenders across the US and impounded them, only halted by court actions which took a long time to play out. Back 10 years ago or so, Customs made a big deal of destroying some Defenders on video to deter anyone else trying to get around the 25 year rule. There have been other cars with big social media enthusiast presence like Nissan Skylines that were targeted.

Figure out what you want, know the rules, and get a good importer with a known reputation for using the right ports of entry and doing paperwork correctly on whatever vehicle you want.
Seems like this guy will only gain more followers with recommendations like these.

re: RIP Schlitz beer

The first beer I remember seeing as a kid in the 70s was Schlitz. Our neighbor was an old WWII vet who, as far as I can tell started drinking them at breakfast and continued until he went to bed. The only thing he loved as much as his Schlitz was Lucky Strike cigarettes.

I had a neighbor like this in the early 80's growing up. The man had been an officer in the war and retired from the Army as a Lt Col, IIRC. He was already in his late 70's when I met him. He kept a service rifle, either an M1 carbine or M-14, on his wall with an engraved plaque on the stock given to him for retirement. A 1911 .45 was always around next to his lounge chair. He'd dress up almost every day, often in a suit and tie, but would drink and smoke Chesterfield's daily. When the car was taken away, he'd still get dressed up to walk outside and push leaves off the walkway with his cane. There were also days he might be seen waving the .45 around on the porch yelling at people. We got along pretty well, though, would talk most afternoons when I was out in the yard, and he never was mad if I had to go under his house to find a football or baseball that got away. He was also very tolerant of me shooting my pellet gun regularly. Right before he was taken away to a home, I heard he had wanted me to have the rifle, but his kids wouldn't let him give that to me. I understood why they wanted the rifle, but still felt honored he thought I was worthy to have it.

Sounds like the OP may be on to something. Chicken better step up and hire more of these people to keep the response time quick on things like this and "350" "fatty" and "trashy".

Not to mention, it's already been several minutes and no one on the OT has called you a fatty for eating McDonald's. Service around here is slipping as well.
The two sign offs I remember had one featuring a combination of national songs by Elvis and the other featured the Star Spangled Banner against a back drop of B-52’s and the Apollo mission. When you fell asleep with the TV on past the sign off, that loud static is not something you ever forgot, either.

I just talked to a mom that has a kid at the school. It was a girl from there that was killed. 17 years old.

What horrible news to hear when you should be thinking about high school graduation or summer plans. Prayers for this child and her family.

I've often heard the neighborhood groups are more prone to random violence as the organized gangs enforce discipline to avoid unnecessary attention and heat from law enforcement.

re: My father passed away

My condolences on the loss of your father. I actually saw this obituary today as I was reading the newspaper. You did a very nice job and I’m sure your father would be honored. It struck me today how there were a number of people who seemed to have lived great lives and left behind grateful family members made better by their time here on earth. May we all be so fortunate.

That’s a great section of New Orleans. That vibe is what we need here in more places. The overpass area is about the closest we come. Government street is continuing to develop.
I guess the Oracle sees a questionable future.

There is a 100% chance that if the battery in your smoke detector is starting to die, it will let you know between the hours of 2am and 3am.

Someone may say this is incorrect, but I've heard that can happen because the temps are cooler at night and batteries are temperature sensitive. A colder battery will fail before a warm battery as the theory goes.

So if the battery is about to die, it is more prone to beep at night when it is cooler than during the day.
