Fort Worth is a major city and has some beautiful scenic areas and a nice downtown. I don't know what it's like to live there, but it's by far my favorite place of all the cities and towns that I have visited in DFW.

There seems to be a life cycle of big cities. Early on downtown is thriving but then there is a shift to the suburbs as downtown deteriorates. The suburbs then worsen and people either move further out or move back downtown to start gentrifying. Different cities are in different phases of this cycle.

And the irony of that is the man most responsible for the Big Apple's resurgence, Rudy Guiliani, is despised by the very people who benefitted from it the most. ETA: People actually DVed this. Giuliani absolutely saved NY from being a cesspool. Property values skyrocketed as a result of his policies.

Diversity of opinions voting habits etc absolutely. Major metro areas have beaten opposing thought via force. You will be excommunicated for having conservative views. Whereas smaller towns may be more conservative you won’t be shouted down and fired for the “wrong” view

I live in the middle of a massive metro area and vote red and most of my friends (who live nearby) do as well
I have very close friends/family members who live in DC/Denver/NYC city limits who are the same way.
These areas have millions and millions of people they aren’t monochromatic in favor of one party. Also most nice suburbs in the south and in a lot of other areas of the country trend republican and they are still part of a large metro area
Opinions like this make me wonder how much time some on here have actually spent in the large cities in this country

Tons of great cities in the US. I used to live in DC and it was awesome, but expensive. If I had the money, I'd be very tempted by San Diego.
I currently live in Raleigh and it is a really pleasant, convenient, and nice place to live at an affordable price. Lots of good restaurants and bars, college and pro sports, great museums, educated people, low crime, good economy, solid public schools. I would prefer closer to the ocean, but i can be at the beach in two hours.
Places like Nashville, Atlanta and Charlotte have a lot to offer, although they have more crime and traffic.

The idea that everyone in a city voted liberal and all other opinions are excommunicated is crazy. Many people I know in large urban areas have politically conservative views.
It’s painfully clear most people posting on this thread have never travelled much in their life in any substantial way.

Lots of “I spent a Thanksgiving in New York and went to the Macy’s Day Parade so I understand big cities” comments in this thread.
