Every week.

Occasionally I even beat some of the Kenyans.

An Ironman is not much tougher than a marathon IMO....its all mental.

I have completed an Ironman, but never a stand alone marathon. Was training for the Houston this past weekend when I had an inflammation issue that caused me to stop about 5 weeks ago. I was more nervous about the Marathon. But mostly because I had a time goal that I knew might put me in pain come mile 20. Whereas walking in the Ironman marathon was not some crushing defeat.

I know 80% of people could do an IM or marathon. It might take a few years of lifestyle change. But they could. I see a lot of old, heavier, used to be very out of shape people at those types of events. They just made the decision to do it when others said it was crazy.

The 50k is the Barkley Fall Classic, and I’m expecting that one to be pretty brutal.

The Barkley in Tennessee that no one finishes? Is this your first time?

The barkley 50k is only a teaser for the real Barkley Marathons. It’s run on the same course but it’s only 50K. The BM is 160K (100 miles).

Okay -- I was not aware there was a teaser race. That is interesting.

Did my first marathon earlier this month. It was fun but I prefer a half marathon.

The training that goes into running a marathon is just too much for my schedule.

Ditto. I've run several marathons and ultramarathons, but I just don't have the desire (nor the time) to train any more. Half marathons are a good test of your fitness, and you can still walk down stairs the next day.

Ran the Louisiana Marathon half yesterday. I was woefully undertrained, but still enjoyed it, got a good run in with great crowd support and got to see a lot of friends running and in the crowd.

Fun fact:

(Or maybe not so fun of a fact for actual marathon runners)

A marathon is measured to be 26 miles and 385 yards. The famous run made in Greece that led to its namesake, is not measured at that distance.
So, why this exact measurement? It was set in London for the 1908 Olympics. Originally set to be 26 miles, they added 385 yards to it, so the finish could be by the Royal Family's seats.

Yup.

In many ways running a very fast marathon in harder and more destructive on the body. I've done a bunch of Ironman and marathon racing at a pretty decent level and usually take longer to recover from a hard open marathon. Very different types of fatigue

Marathon is a pure fitness and durability test. Ironman is a nutrition test.

Did first Marathon in Miami today. Wow. Never been so exhausted from a physical activity. Kudos to those of you who regularly do it. It’s a beast.
